Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

xpalan wrote:O.K just got 8000km out of Bridgestone 023 BT ( maybe could have got another 1200km ish ) - How do you get approx 15000km out of tyres ? And yes I check Tyre pressures every Morning .
Front 36 psi and rear 38 psi (cold ), do you People stay up right all the time only ? Or are the Adelaide hills Just too much for Bike Tyres ?
(And my ride is a 2003 Bandit 1200 )
Almost 16000 out of my rear PR2 (it's stuffed) and there are no chicken strips on it
Usually 40psi cold but it also depends on the road construction. You'll get far less on TAS roads for example so its reasonable to assume some SA roads will be harsh as well.
Speed and weight play a big role in wear too. I'm fat and I ride fast

Chicken strips never in question (unless from KFC ) just trying to get better tyre life . And body weight is a massive 90kg -maybe more KFC needed ?

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Has anyone managed to wear a s\touring tyre out all the way round?
I looked in the used tyre pile at the bike shop and they all looked like mine. Tread left on the outsides non in the middle.
Maybe i'll move to Tassie and see then.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
With the USA dollar being weak at present it makes for some pretty good buys from the USA.
JakeWilson has some reasonable freight prices. I just landed a set of Bridgestone BT023's for under $275aud.
I'm tempted to buy another set while the dollar is strong, but how do they keep in storage? Do they go off with time?
Wouldn't mind giving a set of Pirellis a run...............I 've done 8000km on the OEM Bridgestone BT021's & I'd say there is a good 1500+ km left in them yet!
Mind you Mitchelin have just released the Pilot Road 3 so they might be another good option.

I've had pilot Sports not bad at all, then Pirelli Diablo's which i loved, i've now got the diablo rossi tyres (120 front 190 back (yes a 190 not a typo) and absolutely love the tyres. never given me a scare wet or dry conditions, highly recommended...

Re: Tyres: Feedback
No problem... just a word to the wise.. the 190 rear will slow the bike leaning , the reason i went for a 190 is ive dropped the forks 5mm and replaced the rear shock with a busa 09" shock, which lifted the rear by 2". this made the bike a bit twitchy which the 190 rear tyre rectified.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Well im due for 2 new tyres. This will be set number 5. Now that i have track bike...i dont think the bandit will be seeing to much track work in the future. so this time im going for some tyres that will last a little longer. Michelin Road 2 it is.
At the moment i have power pures on. Ill have to check, but i dont think i got very good km out of them. Ill be riding to work more often this year, so i reckon the road 2 are the go...my brother gets good km out of them on his bandit.

I have both Cam. (differant bikes ) Pures and Raod 2. They have a very differant profile. The pure is like a V ,the 2s like a U.
The pures turn quicker but the 2s last a lot longer.I have the 2s on the bandit and will again next time.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Pretty sure PR 3's are either out already or will be very soon - I think theres a bit of a compound tweaking and some tread changes for better wet performance. Will be interested to see what these are like.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
PR 3's are coming out very soon. They are a softer compound...so they wont last quite at long as the pr2

Re: Tyres: Feedback
ok so..here is my tyre history:
Original Dunlops: 3650km
Michelin Pilot Power: 8400km (plus Oran Park track day)
Pirelli Diablo Rosso: 7300km (2 x WSID)
Michelin Power Pure: 5800km (EC track day)
Front and rear tyres where both replaced each time.
I took the wheels off tonight and am putting Michelin PR2 on tomorrow.
I think i liked the Pilot Powers the best...but the Diablo Rossos where the best in the wet.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
For those that maybe thinking about new tyres & as others on the forum have done I ordered a set of PR2's from Jake Wilson in the US. No GST delivered to my door today for $320 AUD. Get on board while the dollars is strong I have put mine away for fitment in a couple of months.

I'm now running Continental Contimotions on the B650. Only been on for about 700km but had plenty of wet roads and twisties to try them out on. So far so good - will buy again ATM. Cost me $300 + fitting F&R.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Has anyone run a set of Bridgestone BT023's through to the end?
I have just thrown on a set after the OEM BT021's (11000km) & wanted to know what the feed back was.
I'm about to order another set of tyres from JW and not sure whether to get another set of BT's or try something different. I've only just scrubbed them in, they feel ok so far but I've heard varying reports.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
So far I am enjoying the BT023's, they've only done about 1500km so it's early days!
Not showing any sign of wear & seem to stick reasonably well! (little fine slither of chicken strip left).
I'm gonna order in another set but I might do the F BT016 / R BT023 combo next time.
I'm booked in for another track day early June so it will be interesting to see how well they stand up to the track surface.
Last time I was on OEM BT021's & they weren't too bad, it was the brakes that starting going off first (standard pads). Heavy big tank to get around the tight circuit.
Modified front & rear should also everything down on the ground smoother as well.
I still think the BT023's are great value for $ , I can get 3 sets for the price of 2 sets of PR3's & they work pretty good.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Just fitted a pair of Pilot Road 3s. They look snazzy and the handling is definately better than the Battlax I had previously. With 190 on the back instead of 180 the bike feels more stable going into corners, less twitchy too with changes of direction. They are supposed to be excellent in the wet also, but haven't had a wet day yet. The profile of the front tyre is flatter putting more tyre on the road so should be grippier. I certainly feel more confident dropping it over. Longevity ?? I got 12000 out of the Battlax (the rear was still good but the front cactus) and will be happy if I can match that. I want my cake and eat it, longevity and performance. Not asking much is it ?

Re: Tyres: Feedback
That's interesting. I don't think a 190 is a common mod on Bandits. It usually means a slower turn in. Keep us posted.
