After Tassie

Post  Chook on Sat 03 Nov 2018, 9:15 am

Kaylah couldn't make the Tasmania trip with me (Uni, work etc.) but she is able to fly to Melbourne the day Baz and I get back on to the big island.

Flights haven't been arranged yet but we get back into Melbourne early on Monday December 17th, I'm looking at a couple of AirBnB's around Geelong for that night for us to stay and have a early start onto the Great Ocean Rd, that night we are staying with a mate in Mt Gambier so we'll be looking at about 7 hrs riding.

If anyone want's to join us for part or all of the G.O.R. we'd love to have company. Sunrise is 5:54am in Geelong that day so I'm thinking being on the road by 7:00 at the absolute latest, would prefer 6:00 and a stop within the 1st hour for breakfast

Flight booked for Kaylah, she gets into Tullamarine at 9:20, plenty of time for me to get out there after getting off the Spirit of Tasmania, 24 hrs Tulla pass paid for, about $3 so may even head back into the city for some sightseeing.
Booked and paid for a Airbnb right next to the Geelong CBD, about $70 for the 2 of us, bedroom in a private appartment, owner doesn't have a car so lock up accommodation for the Bandit, 750m walk to the Westfield, closer than that to the foreshore

If any locals want to catch up for a beer / meal in a CBD pub that night, 17/12, let us know, always up for meeting more members from here

For freeway tolls I use LinktGO. You put the app on your phone, set up your payment preference and then head off. It works for all Australian states and you never have to ever think about toll roads at all. If you travel on one, it will automatically pay the toll (with or without you knowing, depending on how you set it up).  cheers

If I lived closer than 8hrs to the nearest tollway I'd probably consider something like that

About $3 this time to do what I want, last year a 30 day pass that covered Sydney and Brisbane, and a 3 day Melbourne pass the year before, all those trips have cost me less than $30 combined so I'm pretty happy with that.

I got an Etag before my trip, it went off in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane; worth it not to have to worry about which roads Google Maps was taking me on. Smile

Same here, we got a NSW Tag when we were living in Canberra so that it could be put it on any vehicle we hired or drove in the big smoke(s).  Still have it, the account has about $35 in at all times; auto-topup, comes in handy for those odd trips to the mainland.

And if they ever build that bridge across Bass Straight sure as heck they'll stick a toll on it as well  Rolling Eyes
