don't know if anyone else went to the bike show at darling Harbour over the weekend but there was no Suzuki stand as they didn't turn up so I was told, found that strange and would be interested to know why and how many sales they missed out on over the whole 3 days

Square metreage at these events is very expensive.
Hard to know how many deals are actually done at these things as whenever I’ve asked about bikes (and cars) they’ve not seemed interested. It’s more an advertising event than sales.

I went Saturday, was disappointing every make was there except Suzuki and Indian
You could sit on anything except Yamaha's for some reason
I think of the Japs Kawasaki has it most sorted with road bikes
I thought it was a good show, saw Robbie Maddison ride on water at Darling Harbour
Watched those maniacs jumping motocross bikes
The electric dirt bikes were interesting, really quick acceleration

People looking at these events may not buy on the day, but might go to their local dealer a few weeks later. That sale then won't get attributed to the event, so the company then thinks attending the event wasn't worth it.

When i was young, i use to go to all the car and bike shows in brisbane.
The bike shows probably stopped about 10yrs ago, and as 2wheels said, as one sales bloke was saying to me, it use to cost them way too much to be there.
I havent been to a car show since the late 80's.
How relevant are shows these day's?.........we've all got access to information at our finger tips.....hello youtube...... and if i want to know about a bike, i go to the dealer, and take a bike for a test ride. You cant do that at a show.
There probably good just to kill a bit of time, and maybe see concept bikes, if there were to be any, but in general, they're almost an out dated event.

I only asked why Suzuki didn't have a stand at the show not what you do or don't like, as for being out dated tell that to the thousands of people that attended the show, there are also small business who use these shows to promote their products, the exposure they get over 3 days would take them a whole year to generate, to be able to compare bikes from most manufactures in one day would take you a whole weekend to drive around and look at them and yes you cant take them for a ride but you can at least sit on them and ask all the same questions as you would at a dealership, may be you should get out more as things have changed since the 80's

I wasn't trying to be negitive about shows, or your post, its just we do live in a tech savvy world, that info is instantly gained as soon as you think of it, due to the internet..we never had that in the 80's.
Your right, it is a place for small businesses to be sighted, if there is a good product they could offer, but lets face the facts...and again, I'm not trying to shit on the post you started, i'm trying to see it from 2017 eyes

The last show I went to, 2007, Suzuki weren't there either, and as I stated, the show space was silly expensive, as per another dealer telling me so.
So, they either dont care....too dear....general public gets info else where.

I use to love the shows, just as you do.

I went on Friday and strangely didn't notice Suzuki wasn't there until I read this thread but I did notice Moto Guzzi was absent.
I bought a new pair of shorty boots at a show only discount price and a new pair of jeans from a maker I've never heard of (Finn).
