GSF1250S headlight bulb adaptor cooked
Has anyone else had the adaptor melted where the bulb plugs in?
Riding home from work last night I noticed my light was out in my reflection on the back of a car.
Gauges out, after a short fight, finally get the wiring plug off the back of the adaptor, pop off the metal clip and the adaptor fell off the back of the bulb without trying to remove it.
The spade connectors on the globe were loose in the adaptor, it appears the female ends had spread apart, it's been getting pretty hot in thwere and some of the plastic around one terminal is quite melted and crumbling.
I gave the 2 female connectors a bit of a squash, cleaned the halogen globe and it appears all good atm, I think I'll still order a new one and replace it.
46,000 and the globe has only been out once when it blew in Brisbane about 12 months ago, I have NFI what it was like then, I had no tools to do a chain adjustment so put it into Brisbane Motorcycles and got them to do it while it was there.

Maybe they struggled to get it to connect so opened up the spade connectors

+ 1 mine was fine when I changed the globe recently . Sounds like who ever fitted the last one may have been a bit ham-fisted .madmax wrote:Maybe they struggled to get it to connect so opened up the spade connectors

If it was that loose when they put it back together it would have been a pain in the arse trying to stop it falling out while trying to do up the clip.
There was no sign of tampering with the female spade ends (they looked symmetrical which is pretty hard to keep if you spread or squash them), the connector that has melted plastic around it was sloppy loose, the other was loose but not sloppy or floating
I wondered if it might have been something that develops from constant vibration, perhaps not if no one else has had a issue

It had to be a poor connection to generate that much heat and I've never seen a spade connector loosen up on it's own...

It was poor all right, sloppy as a dick in a shirt sleeve
The other side wasn't much better

Maybe they changed your bulb by reaching up underneath instead of removing the dash assembly & had a hard time putting the plug on .

It wasn't that end of the adaptor, it was the globe side, you have to have the clip undone to get to that. I had a hard enough time getting the plug off with the dash removed but by hands are the size of small baseball mittspaul wrote:Maybe they changed your bulb by reaching up underneath instead of removing the dash assembly & had a hard time putting the plug on .
Re: GSF1250S headlight bulb adaptor cooked
I'd noticed my nuetral light flickering at idle and put it down to a 6 1/2yo battery getting tired
Since the headlight fix, bright and steady

Re: GSF1250S headlight bulb adaptor cooked
Neutral light was probably the dash connector not seated correctly, by pulling and returning the dash it's been reconnected properly.
