4deg ignition advancer

Post  Ironman on Sun 06 Aug 2017, 2:32 pm

All these years i've put off buying the replacement advancer for the 1200. Why did I wait so long.
5 minutes to fit.
straight away idle speed is higher (something I knew would happen from years of fiddling with the old points distributor on my cortina)
let it warm up and readjusted idle speed.
Went for a run up to the next town and back.
My highly sensitive and calibrated arse dyno says "yes" it makes a noticeable difference for the better.
No pinging as a result of the increase in timing
it will pick the front wheel up (just enough to give the impression of awesome power steering) on hard acceleration when you reach about 8000 rpm - something it didn't do before
still has that buzz at 4-5K rpm but is different.
throttle response is sharper

so it now too gets the ironman stamp of approval.

Congratulations...
It's the first thing i did to my gen 1 when i got it.
I took it out of my gen 2, which no longer needs the advancer. Mine does ping though if i don't use 98, and if it's an extremely hot day,  I'm talking 40° + days,  it still does every now and then, but wouldn't have it any other way.  Along with my modified exhaust and jetted to suit that combo,  it picks up on second.  You can't hit it hard in first,  or it will easily flip.
Economy has increased.  It gets 21km/L on a cruise now,  and if riding aggressively,  about 18km/L.

07 DRZ 400e. Lot of fun with no power. 25 km/L
