Bandit 250 clutch adjustment? Empty Bandit 250 clutch adjustment?

Post  Banditnewb Sun 18 Jun 2017, 1:35 pm

Hi guys back again, bike is just about ready to go apart from one thing. I go to engage 1st and the bike lunges forward and stalls even with the clutch in.
So my first thought is its not disengaging 100%
I see the two adjustment points for the handle and further down where the cable ends but im unsure which way i should be adjusting them and dont want go turning blindly and hoping i get it right.
Thanks

Sounds like it may be sticking clutch plates .............

I take it the 250 is cable actuated , so to put it simply , adjusting the cable to make it tighter will generally give more clutch travel ...............you just don't want it too tight so that the clutch slips .

Wiggle the lever, without actually pulling it. There should be a small amount of free play in the cable with the clutch engaged.
Usually anti clockwise on the adjuster, at lever, will give more tension on cable.
The clutch should disengage fully when lever is pulled back to bars, with the cable tensioned correctly.
Check to see that outer cable is securely seated in holder on clutch cover. Also that clutch arm is secure on splined spindle.

Also check that the inner cable moves freely in the outer cable

THanks for the replys, yeah sticking or seized clutch plates are a possibility it did sit for 6+ years before i got my hands on it.
Ill try some adjustments and if it doesnt come good ill just bite the bullet and do the clutch plates. Ill let you know how i go.

I managed to adjust it to the point where it doesnt lunge forward when i put ut in gear but it still stalls so im going to assume its seized.
No havent ridden it yet had everything done and was going to take it out then this happened. Its got fresh oil in it i might pull the plates out and clean them and reinstall see if i can get that to work before i fork out for new plates

Yep as thought 5/6 clutch discs were stuck to the plates, cleaned it all down put in new oil and she rides like a dream. Sounds damn good for a 250. Next issue is now the speedo is stuck on 0 so ill have a look at that next and then she should be good to go!

You would have saved yourself some time if you just rode it Smile those plates would have freed up once it got warm. The speedo problem bwill most likely be a cable job, if you can't be bothered buying a new cable look at a digital dash replacement. A mate did this on his naked bandit 1200 it seemed to work well.
