I was so brought a med sized gel seat that clips over the standard seat. its softer and you can move around, rides now have never been better

I paid about $85 NZ from bike shop here, not sure price on e-bay but I its a lot cheaper than buying another seat

Yep  the factory seat is the worst part of an otherwise great bike.  I describe it as a 20 minutes to numbness seat.  Mine had a sheepskin when I bought it but I didn't find it made much difference.  I now have an airhawk that I use all the time.  Makes a big improvement once you get the air level correct.  they actually are right with bugger all air in them at all and if there is too much it feels like you are sitting on a ball that rolls as you accelerate.

I bought a Corbin Holeshot seat from a member on here, it was his dad's but being over 6 foot tall and the Holeshot lowering the sitting position by about an inch he only had it on the bike for a day or two.  I'm 5'10" (178cm) so the lower seat didn't worry me.

I picked it up at less than 1/2 price and delivery was only about $30.  I have no problems doing multiple 600-800km days in a row, but personally I would not pay full price and the exorbitant postage from the USA.

There are some very good seat retailers locally that can do magic at a fraction of the cost, check them out and you will be pleasantly surprised with the price, quality and functionality.

It might be worth talking to your local motor trimmer to see what they can do for you by way of modification ...................or possibly that was what Barry meant by his last comment .

I'm just back from a 1300km ride over 3 days. Usually I'd be rather seat sore after a ride like that, but since I just had my seat re-trimmed and shaped from MJM in Goulburn (plus adding highway foot pegs), I've returned home without any discomfort at all. the new seat and riding position is a real winner and it feels like a different bike.

Hi
Could you upload us some side on pics so we can see what they did to the seat?
Thanks

That retrim makes the seat wider with softer edges compared to the stock seat. I'm not surprised that it doesn't give you a sore backside now.

Out of interest, how much does MJM charge for such a retrim @Handy1250FA?

Around $500

It's a substantial outlay, but it 's really transformed the bikes comfort.

Guys, if anyone is interested my wife's cousin has one for sale in Wollongong, $350 plus shipping.  It's pretty new (probably less than 1000 kms / 3 months) and he doesn't find it works for him and wants to try a Sargent.  PM me if you want his details.

I've had an MJM seat for 4 years now and it is the best upgrade I have done to the bike. 700 to 800km days are easy on these seats.

I've long disliked the standard Bandit seat.  It's actually too soft, I think.  I seem to settle into the one spot when riding and that one spot starts to wear at me after a time.  It's not terrible, but starts to become a problem after a couple of hours.  Make that a 5 or 6 hour ride and it's the pits.  I can move back, but soon settle down into "the spot".  So what Have I done about it?  I went out and bought a Corbin didn't I, thinking that would fix all.  Well it didn't.

I'm a "shorter rider" at 168 cm.  The cut away on the sides makes the stock seat Ok.  I can reach the ground.  The Corbin?  Well it's flatter, lower, harder, and one would think better in every regard.  Actually, I tend to ride back on the Corbin, that's OK, and put a lambs wool cover on it so I don't slide, it's pretty good, just the thing for long trips.  Though it's a little hard to get used to the fact that from the seat, the ground is at least an inch closer. I don't like the fact the width of the Corbin and lower height preclude cutaways, getting on and off frequently tend to bruise the upper inner thighs if there is a lot of on and off activity. It's good for travelling long distance on though. Perfect with a lambswool cover.  No issues with "the spot".

It did, however cause another problem for me.  My left hip was starting to kill me on long rides - arthritis in the hip, and my time in the saddle was limited.  The lower Corbin seat put my legs up another inch and this reduced that time considerably.  I had previously put some Renntech engine bars on the bike.  They are good to mount accessories on, like driving lights.  In my case, I put highway pegs on them. Laugh if you will but this gives me 2 forward positions I can put my feet, giving me relief when the arthritic pain starts to kill me.  In 2015, I was going to travel to an annual get together - that's like 1230 km from home.  Had I not had the extra pegs on, I would not have got 150 km.  I would have turned around and come home. The key to comfort was being able to move my foot position every 15 to 20 minutes.  It worked.  Now I didn't take the Corbin on that trip.  It was on the stock seat. I did the return trip in one day.  The pegs were there, and helped me avoid "the spot" in one of three rotations.  the seat problem went away.

Now I've had the hip joint replaced, and it's made riding much less of an exercise in endurance.  I'll keep the pegs and next big trip, I'll ride the Corbin to see how it travels.

The best solution is to ride fast twisty roads, ALL the time.

I never have pain in the butt or hands when I'm riding the Putty or Oxley etc. Very Happy

Hello people. In regards to Bandit seats,a couple of years ago when I was living in Kingaroy(Q.L.D.)I asked a local upholster to open er up and insert some Gel foam.Much better and set me back about $50.I`ve been riding since 1971 and it seems to me most bike manufactures have forgotten about seat quality.

Further to the Corbin and long travels, after one  long hop of 1665 km and another of 1550.

I wasn't happy with the sheepskin options I had so left them at home.  I just didn't want to be faffing around with them en-route or sitting on a wrinkle. Anyway, all of mine were getting pretty thin, so I just left it all alone.  A test of the Corbin - on it's own.  Going up (the longer ride, it was fine) The roughest stretch was about 80 km of the Newell just North of home.  I was fresh, and it wasn't a factor really. I would say, as seats go it appears hard. It is very firm, BUT unlike the stock seat, one does not settle into the one spot immediately after moving one's bum forward a bit or back.  If there was a problem, it became apparent on the way home.  The stretch from Dalby to Goondiwindi was quite rough - bum smacking rough. That left me with a tender backside for the remainder of the trip and I was still feeling bruised a couple of days later after arriving home.

Next try?  A fitted sheepskin cover or airhawk over the Corbin.  I simply won't do any real travel on the stock seat.  I'm a little skeptical of the air hawk, without having tried it, it looks like it would encourage one to be a "single position" rider, something I like to avoid on long rides.
