The Nod Empty The Nod

Post  Chalkie Tue 28 Feb 2017, 5:01 pm

I know I am an old fart BUT when I started riding every time you passed a rider going the other way you always gave a wave or a nod. Then when Harleys arrived in numbers, they seemed to think they were too elite to acknowledge you and now it seems few people return the nod.

Equally, and yes it was well before mobile phones, but if you saw another rider stopped on the side of the road you pulled over to see if help was needed.

I know, "Those were the good old days." Bull, just common courtesy!

I came back from Canberra today on the Bandit, and passed many bikes going in the opposite direction (probably returning home from Phillip Island). I nodded or waved to them all but got a couple (at most) of responses.

Confirms my point Ewok. I find it sad that this sense of mutual support is being lost.

Agreed, I sometimes wave or at least nod(depends where I'm riding). When I first started riding(country Vic), some pricks waved that hard I though they were gonna tank slap and crash  Very Happy

I find that if I wave or nod first most will acknowledge it in return. If you wait for them to do it first, you'll be sadly disappointed

I still nod & get quite a lot back ( maybe I'm one of the good looking ones Wink  )..............rumor has it that Harley riders aren't game to take their hand off the handlebars to wave  Laughing

Set the cruise control on and wave with both hands, at least they'll notice of you   Cool

What @Paul says, the handlebars are shaking so violently they dare not take their hands off. As for nodding again i think they might try, but that bastard shaking v twin counteracts their head movement.  In reality though they are all try hard 1%erz there stupid vests, open face helmets and fingerless gloves are laughable at best. But they are all individuals don't you know Smile

Btw I wave even through corners. Seldom see a wave back. Maybe they don't see the silver bullet (bandit) pass.

We have splintered into ‘tribes’: Crusiers, Wank Café Racers (TW200 based ones), Standards, Scooters, Adventure Tourers etc. etc.
Once, we were riders…didn’t matter what, wasn’t much choice anyway, now we have moved into separate (frequently) marketing-defined camps.
Progress.
