Puncture repair kits

Post  Chalkie on Tue 01 Nov 2016, 8:14 pm

I've seen puncture repair kits on eBay and have watched their use on youtube. Anticipating a decent ride across a couple of states in January which will go through some fairly deserted areas and not wanting to get stuck with a puncture so wanting a bit of advice. Has anyone used them? Were they successful and do you recommend them?

Cheers,

Got a kit on ebay some years ago, it's the licorice stick type. Used it once on rear tyre. A few months later the plug fell in. Repaired again on side of road and found out the 3 cylinders they give you are nowhere near enough to fill the rear tyre.
I now have a small compressor as well as the kit.
I consider the repair temporary.

The plugs are a temporary fix should always go and get it repaired properly with the ones they put in from the inside.

I have a Stop and Go http://www.stopngo.com/pocket-tire-plugger-for-all-tubeless-tires/

repair kit and a small 12V compressor, so far it's worked perfectly, like taking an umbrella, haven't had a puncture. Very Happy

I've got the same mushroom head plug system but with the handgun insertion tool.  Used it twice on two different punctures on the car, both haven't leaked in 3 years.  Got mine from Pashnit which are a little cheaper than Stopngo.

Pashnit Tire Repair Kits

A small compact battery compressor is better than multiple bottles of CO², although it is a fair bit slower.  There were some members that had problems with the cheaper $25 eBay units, but mine and Bryans have been reliable - it's best to test it out before your trip to make sure it's okay.

Yeah I've used mine twice, no problems but I also carry 5 Co2 bottles as a backup
