Differant way to crash Empty Differant way to crash

Post  gus Thu 14 Jul 2016, 8:36 pm

I was in the car today and noticed a nice newish Honda Fireblade parked in a strange position .On passing I could see the LHS was totalled in gravel rash . I did a u turn
to make sure the guy was ok . He was (not so the bike ) , said the front end started to feel strange and then the brakes locked solid . The nice rubber mark on the road
told the story  and the end result .
Thinking about it later ,i'm confused how brakes lock solid when it has ABS . THe skid mark was one continuous line , on a straight piece of road .

maybe he had disabled the ABS? IS that possible on a Fireblade?

Old I'll maintained wheel cylinders can have corroded pistons. The piston pushed out when brakes were applied, but didn't release due to the piston being stuck in the bore. As the heat of friction makes the disc and pads expand, brake force becomes more severe eventually locking wheel.

Bike wasn't old enough to have corrosion . I'd blame rider error but that _____________________________ and not -----------  has me stuffed .

I do know where the crashed bike went (a shop ) may have to get nosey ,

According to the Motorcycle Specifications webpage, C-ABS (Combined ABS) was introduced on the blade as an option in 2009 and then on all models since. So if it was pre-2009 it wouldn't have ABS.
