I went looking for some information about the Collie around the houses motorcycle races and stumbled upon this awesome site. http://www.speedwayandroadracehistory.com/1986--1990-collie-speedway.html

What's more the clippings for the Collie pcyc Mungalup speedway had a picture of my dad's fj Holden leading and his name printed as winning the b class. It also mentions the westralia dirt bike track which is in Allanson less than 1km from my house. In fact parts of the track are still rideable and I've ridden it about a month ago on my drz. It's really awesome to read about the starting of racing in the south west. I wouldn't think of trying to ride an old bsa or triumph single on a gravel dirt bike track with jumps.

I'll post up some other cool information I've got about a 20 year commemoration for  the last round the houses motorcycle race that was run in 1996.  It is to be held over two days this November in Collie, with historic racing at the Collie track. I'm trying to track down anyone that may have photos and even better motorcycles which raced in the era

Yeah it's pretty cool stuff. My dad raced speedway in the 60s and 70s, he always told us they destroyed so many fjs that today would be worth quite a reasonable amount of money. The old bike riders really intrigued me though. They must have been mad

Great stuff mate, especially as you have a family link. There's a similar story in a Canberra suburb that I wasn't aware of until a car-nut friend of mine gave me the story. The old south Canberra track is now incorporated into the suburbs. I'll dig out a reference if I can locate it. cheers
