8 months of Bandit
So it's been ages since i posted anything here, and my apologies for that, but, I've been riding my ass off =-
It's been 8 months and dead on 35k kilometers on my 2010 bandit, and I'll start with what that's cost......
I skip every 2nd minor service (6k) at suzuki doing an oil change myself when it comes up, not a lot else, then every 12k off to Suzuki with every 2nd 12k being a major (each 12k is a minor with plugs)
Going bout 400 approx per minor, and 600 per major, so i've done a bit in maintenance....
And not a damn thing has gone wrong..... ever.........
I did my chain and sprockets at 45k (bought her 2nd hand with 10k on the clock), and with it's recent service it's a smooth as silk again, like the day i picked it up.... so money well spent?
It had Angel ST's on it when i bought her, but as i got more confident with her and started to push a little harder on exits and just in damn general, I started to see some flaws, uneven wear, and loss of traction under acceleration (not ludicrous, just on the far side of judicious) when the weather was on the wet side of raining expecially.
I've since upgraded to the Angel GT's and haven't regretted it...
So about every 10-12k or so I'm into it for new GT's the way things are going, and up in Moss street you're looking at about 520ish per set,,,,,, but not a cost i regret either, because it's as predictable as a thrown rock, and as grippy as an insecure pillion....the mileage for a set of tyres that work hard with a medium weighty bike seems tolerable to me, no complaints there either.
And that's it, so rounding off we have about $3500 spent in 35 thousand k's to keep her in optimum condition. Purchase was $8500 with a Yoshi pipe, Ventura rack and bag, and K&N breathing for her.
So with the money side done how about comfort??
I agree with most that the seat has bite after a few hours, but I don't have a problem with all day riding if the stops come when the squirming starts, and i do like the position of it, with plenty of room to move around, for both eating kilometers and chewing up corners.
My back has registered zero pain since i started riding this bike, it puts me in a beautifully comfortable triangle of legs, back and arms at 6 feet tall with a shortish body and slightly long legs.
I do plan to improve the seat before my pilgrimage from Brisbane to Phillip Island on her later this year
The handling is reasonable. I do sometimes feel the limits of it, and with typical back roads you want to stay focused, but again, it's so predictable, and after riding it for a while I've come to appreciate it's competence up to that point where it's stepping outside it's design brief.
I do have plans in the not too distant future to invest in some improvement there courtesy of Holeshot, being the value for money upgrade I believe gives the best result.
Looks are a bit of a personal thing, and while I like that it made an impression as a big 'phark you' looking hunk of bike originally, the looks have grown and grown on me. That slightly dated sharp samurai look is a classic, carries a decent amount of intimidation while separating itself from the new kids on the block in a classy way.
Performance.
Well what should i say... we're all here on the Bandit site right? Mt09's, myriad 600's, some Fj1300's and a large cross section of the moto community have seen my tail lights, and those clown Audi owners have all cried themselves to sleep on their big white pillows at night. It's a Bandit, and though the performance numbers don't seem to be up to current, the real life steam train feel in any gear at any rev are a boon on the commute, in the revs in the mountains, and eating clicks on the highway with a mean as phark buzz/rumble through the yoshi from idle to scream.
Of course, I'm eyeing off Holeshots stage 3, with the cams and high compression pistons and full exhaust to come when it's time to rebuild, because, I'm not going to sell this bike.
I'm going to keep it and improve it over the next few years and ride the piss out of it.
Yes, it's a very positive review and I reckon you're getting the idea that perhaps I love the Bandit 1250s right?
I test rode a GSX-S1000, Suzuki's new sport/standard a few weeks back, and while the telepathic lightweight handling/braking were something I'd love, it was the motor that made me miss my daily.
I'm ruined by the bandit, being used to a steam train pull at any roll, without waiting till I'm up in the band, and already so illegal that we're just jumping between no licence and a crushed bike after getting there.
So there she is, and I don't think there's anything here that we haven't heard before, but, It's just a confirmation by yet another happy rider, and that sense, value, and fun can all be bought in one shot, with no regrets, if it's a Bandit that you bought
Have a good one all,

Re: 8 months of Bandit
pretty much the same opinion as me, mine is the most reliable transport I've ever had (car or bike) nothing ever goes wrong.
I've spent a few $$$ at Holeshot myself, recommend the seat highly

Re: 8 months of Bandit
I'm with you for the most part, on my second 1250, because I missed the first one so much. I traded my first beloved in on a FZ-09(MT-09). To be honest though, the only way the Bandit would win that race...if it was after the speed limiter kicked in at 132mph (Yank speed). Not a lot can keep up with the MT-09 to 100mph. But the big Bandito has many other qualities that redeems itself quite nicely. Huge torque anywhere..comfort..my wife fits also...did i mention torque?
Do yourself a favor, get your front end set up with the Holeshot goodies, including the fork brace, you won't regret it.

Re: 8 months of Bandit
Ive ridden the MT/09 great bikes, really impressed me
pretty sure mine would do a MT/09 to 100mph or any other speed
has the full Holeshot setup and full exhaust
your right about the forks, did them also and got the forkbrace
If you think they have good torque stock thats nothing compared to when tuned
