Hi Folks

Following my lap around Oz there were a number of 'battle scars' that I wanted to fix; particularly on my Givi Panniers. I planned to go to a panel beater to get it and a few other scars sorted but instead I thought I would have a shot myself (at least on the panniers). I was in Supercheap and noticed that they do spray can colours so I thought why not! Anyway long story short the colour match was terrific and I am very happy with the way the pannier covers came out. Given that they are not butted up against the fairing the colour is probably not as vital as doing a partial fix on the fairing (which I may still take to the panel beater).

Thought that I would pass on my experience.

Also I am heading of for a couple of weeks touring Tassie before the Ulysses AGM: anything that I should see or steer clear of (apart from the current crop of bushfires)?.

Hi TT, you should have a good time down here, lots to see and places to go, good that you're taking a bit of time, some try to see the island in one week and really miss out on the good things.  Coppers aren't too bad, speed vans are starting to crop up around the place a bit more frequent, think there might be 6 of them in the state now, and the number of fixed camera in the big smoke (Hobart) has now got into double figures, actually I think there are a couple on the 110 kph roads as well.  Watch out for the white tradies type trailers on the side of the road, they're actually "speed detection/awareness trailers", surprisingly difficult to notice considering they are out in the open.

A couple of things to watch out for would be the normal country road senarios of 4WDs cutting corners, gravel on the road (when you're trying to get out of the way of the 4WD), and dodging the road life that has just been hit by said 4WD.

Most of the traffic is pretty good actually, reckon they drive about 10% slower than the speed limit on most roads, plenty of over taking opportunities if you do find yourself behind a 4WD Spray Can resprays Bus-ride-smiley-emoticon .

School is back next week so that should thin the traffic a little, the school zones are morning and afternoon, mostly with solar powered warning signs of the speed limit.

Mum has a new recipe for scones, so you're welcome to drop in for a cuppa if you are up north of Launceston during your trip, I don't head off to the mainland for the WSSB until the 24th Feb, have a safe trip.

Spray Can resprays Empty Thanks for the Tassie info.

Hey Barry

Thanks for the info on the dreaded "safety" cameras Rolling Eyes and I will reach out to you if I am in the area pre-24th Feb cause I love scones Razz . My mate and I are pretty much free-wheeling it with few set plans and just general compass directions that we will be following. If we see a place we like, we stop and then move on. Launy is where the Ulysses AGM is being held from the 29th so I think that you are probably going to the big island at the right time with the influx of bodies and bikes that it will bring to the environs. affraid

regards

TT

Chris and I were advised, on our visit to Tassie, to drop in and see "The Wall" if we were in the vicinity.
It's located in Derwent Bridge. We stumbled across it as we were tootling around.
Well worth the price of admission and worth a trip out of your way.

Yes wood carving is a "thing" down here, you'll find heaps of it round the place, even up north of us in George Town there's a couple of good pieces in the local parkes:

In the welcome pack we received when we got off the boat in Tassie was a telstra ( I think ) sim card ..................we are with optus & didn't bother with using it , but we found there was limited mobile coverage in a lot of places .( not such a bad thing sometimes Laughing  ) ..................maybe activating the card they gave us might have given better coverage .

Spray Can resprays Empty Thanks Guys

Post  Trucktoe Tue 26 Jan 2016, 3:37 pm

With these ideas that you guys have come up with I am getting itchy to get started on the trip to Tassie. The Wall is a definite place I want to visit having seen it on one of the breakfast shows: amazing artwork.

With respect to the chainsaw artists I thought that with David Foster and his clan that these artworks would have been carved with an axe and chainsaws were for wimps!! But I agree Bosco the carving of that guy holding the chainsaw very lifelike and the colours are so realistic and almost true to life!

Keep the ideas coming guys: all appreciated.

regards

TT

Queenstown has a restored heritage steam loco that runs trips up into the hills.
The one thing that I really wanted to do on our trip.
It turned out to be the bi annual heritage festival weekend when we visited.  The one weekend in two years when you cannot get a ticket for the train ride.  Doh!

And when in Hobart. The SV Rhona H. A 55' sailing ketch which does sailing tours of the Derwent river.
We were lucky enough to get an off season discount, but well worth the money even at full price.

I'm sure that you will be amazed with Tassie, as we were, if you have not been before.

Went on the Strahan to Queenstown railway back in 2010, great trip and history lesson about the area - how the mine tailing runoffs  killed all life in the Kings River and it is only now starting to come back.

The steepness of the run up to Queenstown mean they needed a cog and rack type track as normal "friction" type wheels couldn't handle the grade (1 in 15 at its worse) .  They had the whole lot made in England and shipped out to Tassie in the 1890's and then reassembled on the ground without any of the engineers having seen it before.

They charge a fair bit for the trip, but if you are into old railways and history, this is one of the best restored/working systems left in the world.

You can see a bit of the cog/rack track on the right of the video.
