2015 Lions TT September 18 - 20
I wasn't sure if this was a NSW or QLD event so I posted in National! The Lions TT event is on again this year. Bev and I are going to try and get up there - either caravan or Spyder.

Re: 2015 Lions TT September 18 - 20
It should be both as the course straddles the border; me and a mate went last year, (we were the last 2 of 6 riders to make a pass on the 2nd day) and had a ball. Qld police did their best to make total arseholes of themselves and succeeded admirably. She was a pretty wild affair, the organisers kept saying it was not a race; but it was clear at the staging area that once the flag dropped 'it was ON' as far as the bulk of the riders were concerned.
The course itself was fairly snotty with heavily patched sections of tar, braking hard on this stuff was a bit iffy and I could feel the wheels dancing as the Ohlins units tried to compensate for the surface irregularities and resultant traction. There were also a number of bridges with longitudinal planks and friggin' huge shiney steel bolts heads sticking out. I remember the back-end stepping out on one of these fast enough to get my full attention. Out on the course there was one guy just off his 'P's cruising, and one guy on a Harley that I caught at a bridge and had to follow. He ground her out hard on the bridge striking daytime sparks as she lurched over the planks and bolt-heads and then next he was dragging his pipes across the inside grass of the following right-hander, throwing stones and grass back at me. We straighted up and I fed the Bandit the fossils and quickly departed. He caught me at the finish and rolled in with an ear-to-ear grin.
As Forrest Gump would say: "That's about all I have to say about the Lions TT".

I think it's organised in Kyogle, so in effect that makes it a NSW event.
Although I could be talking shit Sounds good tho

I guess the other point is that the trip gave us the opportunity to run some excellent motorcycle roads such as:
Goulburn to Oberon via the Abercrombie
Bathurst to Sandy Hollow via Sofala
Tamworth to Casino via the Waterfall Way
Kempsey to Tamworth via the Oxley
All of the above are 5

So Dekenai, in what way were the police not favoured?
I don`t like them at the best of times, and they have a job to do, but all I need to really know, is, are they littered on the coarse, or are they just making the usual presence at the start and end, and surrounding roads leading up to the area?
If they`re only doing that, then I don`t care about them.
I read this on here last year, but for some reason, I thought the event had been canceled, obviously not.
My brother lives near there , so it will be home for me for that weekend.
I hope the cops haven`t learn`t too much from last year, and totally destroy it this year, with speed cameras every 100m.
Is there a map of the route, so when I visit him in 2 weeks down there, I`ll do a bit of a reconnaissance mission on the roads?
Edit: I just found the coarse

I failed to see the necessity in running every rider through a RBT which they placed just before the start...of course there were no positives as you would expect from a bunch of guys (and gals) ready for an event.
The Qld police got the shits because the NSW organizers organised a road closure on the Qld side without consulting them. They (the QLD police) then became determined to impede and harass the event as much as possible, (They had about 4 cars and 2 bikes patrolling the border range road).
I don't, personally, have any issue with the cops doing their duty...in fact as a citizen I believe we all have a responsibility to render any requested assistance and follow lawful direction. However, I don't need the 'fun' police...sure the course was not a racetrack and didn't offer much room for error but as riders we assess the risk and ride appropriately. However, their and my idea of appropriate (speed wise), as is the opinion of most riders, wildly different.
At the end of the day, it was a closed road and we are all big boys and girls and make our own assessment, and take our jollies or lumps depending on the quality of our judgement.
On the NSW side we didn't see a single cop and none on the shortened course (start was moved to the border).

Tourism Australia has a new theme.
"Visit Oz - The Nanny Nation"
Good on the organisers for not giving up yet:
"To all the Lions TT Founding Members we thank you for your continued support and we will be going hard to make 2016 happen with road closure motorcycle events like 2014."

Very sad to hear this.

I just came back from doing the Lions rd.
This route has got so much to offer. But sadly, the road is in a horrendous condition.
I had to make it a scenic journey. It's a beautiful landscape, and if there was work in the area,
I'd move there in a heart beat.

Re: 2015 Lions TT September 18 - 20
I rode the Lions rd years ago on my SV. At that time, it was in pretty good condition. If I remember rightly, it was the Lions Club of Beaudesert took it upon themselves to have that road sealed. Maybe it's a case of not enough people supporting the local Lions Club for them to be able to keep the road in top condition.
That whole area is a great part of the world. Just ask MM how easy it is to lose a group of Bandit riders!

Re: 2015 Lions TT September 18 - 20
The area is on my door step, as I`m living in Briz at the moment, and I know the general area really well. Just haven`t been down that particular road before.
My father used to have a mate that owned large property in the area, and every easter we would go camping there as kids.
Fond memories of that region.
At the boarder line, there`s a donation box, but I can`t see that being enough to upkeep the road.
If you had a bike with unadjustable firm suspension, you`d be skipping off the road all the time as it is, and as I was.
My front is way to hard for the road, and was very unpleasant.

Apparently your phone was thirsty, so I shouted it a beer! I hope you traded it in before it got a drinking problem
