Hopefully now police resources will be better spent elsewhere.
Is it? That depends on interpretation of the standard, SA has interpreted the standard as it's ok so long as you don't drill into the helmet or otherwise damage it. Vic has another view. It's bloody frustrating, we live in one country, supposedly using the Australian Road Rules as a model for each states legislation and this in particullar should have no variation between states as it's is all based on an aus/nz standard that can't have the wording changed by different states  Evil or Very Mad

The way I read it they didn't even look at the legality of a camera on a helmet in this court hearing, just dismissed it on the fact the piece of legislation (standard) is not readily and freely available.

Yep the whole bloody system is f*#ked. We should be operating under one set of nationwide laws. One nationwide rego, One nationwide licensing system.
Look how crazy it is with the difference in road laws across the country. Different interpretations of how to drive around a roundabout, U-turns at traffic lights (yes you NSW), Bike helmet standards, just to name a few. And now of course this debacle.

If you go back to the foundation of the federation of the States you see why each State has autonomy.  Unfortunately you get bureaucrats in places like Victoria who are travelling along on their own little twisted crusade. Look at the Victorian road safety mandate ......... speed is the root of all evil.........really well if the speed campaign is so effective why is Victoria still killing so many people on its roading network?
They need to move away from the Monash theories and look at some of the successes that are being achieved overseas.  Not just focus on a cloaked taxation hidden in the form of road safety.

That's exactly the point. It was very easy for them to create a camera and link it to a speed detection device and trap motorists who are doing 2kph over the speed limit and call it road safety.
Not so easy to make a camera and link it to some sort of device that can capture fatigue, drink driving, tailgating, failure to give way, just to name a few that come to mind, that collectively lead to the overall road toll.
When they do that I will take them serious when they say it is all for safety and not revenue.

It's bad here but not Victoria bad yet, at least they give 10% up to a max 10kmh here which is in line with the ADR requirements for speedo accuracy, doesn't help that my last 2 fines were 45 in a 40 zone and 56 in a 50 zone though  Mad
