Everyday use jacket recommendations?

Post  rd400f on Fri 10 Jul 2015, 6:29 pm

Hi
As I ride my bike everyday I need a good jacket that is...windproof...waterproof...breathable if it can...CE armor if it can.

Most important is a bloody good long lasting zip on the front.

All my jackets zips eventually surrender under the assault of my ballast.."or beer cut as some call it"

So what are you guys recommending as an everyday riding jacket?

Thanks

Richard

I've bought 2 new jackets in the last 30 years, both Dririder, the first gave me over 16 years, this on is getting tired after 14, I've spent another $60 about 3 years ago to get a dririder waterproof plastic jacket to go over the top as it started to leak after only 11 years  Wink

The most comfortable jacket I have is my Dryrider Hoodie. Yes it has CE armor. Yes it is windproof. Yes it is meant to be waterproof, but are any of them really?
Can't say I've had it in any real downpours to test it.

Big YKK zip on front, good pockets.

Definitely worth considering

There seams to be a common thread here.
DriRider have always been a brand that I have tried and found to do the job admirably.
Four jackets.  The first was waxed cotton and still lasted over ten years.
The last two that I have picked up have been second hand. One for me and one for Chris, both hardly used and bargains and I expect will both last well.

I bought a Bikers Gear Warehouse (BGW) winter jacket from their (former) store at Philip Island for $99.  It's brilliant - great zip, great pockets and huge overlap on the front to prevent water ingress through the zip.  I was so impressed I spent another $99 on their Summer jacket and I wear it on all 30c+ days in Summer.  They perform way better than the price suggests.  cheers

Rev'It.
I believe their entry level jacket is now called the Levante, does all I need and I think it probably rains here a bit more than in Aussie Very Happy

This would explain why I'd never heard of them

You may laugh but my daily jacket is an Aldi textile jobbie.
After 3yrs the Velcro is less sticky but the zips and material are still fine. It's still waterproof and wind proof.
It has better pockets than my collection of Dryrider and motodry and leather jackets and for $60 can't be beaten.

Aldi has had some quality bike gear for sale at times.
I'm still wearing and swearing by their $70 helmet.
Well worth looking at when their bike gear sale comes around again.
