Re: KTM .......safety police
When this picture first appeared in Wheels the wowsers and pollies went berserk and almost overnight closed down the Australian super-car industry. It essentially killed of the Phase IV and other manufacturers super machines.
Arguably we are now back at the sort of speed these monsters were delivering in the 70's with a little more safety gear, but it should be remembered that when photographer Uwe Kuessner took that photo from the back seat as they were traveling down the Hume Highway there was no max speed restriction.

Maybe KTM should include a man with a red flag with every bike sale!

Re: KTM .......safety police
I think they might have changed the link themselves at "therideadvice.com", however it does take you to a "front page" so you can easily find the article from there.

As a KTM owner I've got to say I agree with them.Makes a nice change to see a manufacturer getting real for a change,if more followed suit it might help to fend off future European legislation aimed at curbing spiraling horsepower.

As a KTM owner I'd like to know why their 180hp naked is safe but their 200hp sports bike kills people.

Re: KTM .......safety police
Hi all
Interesting read about KTM. I am not an adventure bike rider or anything like that, but I do remember watching Ewan Mcgregor and Charlie Boorman's
Long Way Round and being inspired by it quite a bit - you know, that get out there and live out your dreams sort of thing.
Reading this KTM stuff reminded me of when, in that series, Charlie and Ewan were sourcing bikes for their trip. Charlie (the much more experienced rider) was all for the KTM they test rode (creaming himself over it) - ended up a KTM vs BMW choice. One of the main guys for KTM in Europe came to visit them to discuss bikes, look at plans etc. He was a little officious and doubting, and ended up contacting back saying KTM were not interested in supplying bikes as they didn't think Charlie and Ewan would make it and they didn't want to be associated with a trip which may "Fail"! Charlie went nuts when hearing the news (makes for great viewing - "F'ing Cs" was the main expletive")
Reading this discussion reminded me of the attitude displayed during that show. BMW was definitely the winner on that occasion. No doubt KTM are great bikes - perhaps less superior opinion from them would be good. Just saying.
ps I did well not to make any historical connection between Austria and a sense of superiority.

Re: KTM .......safety police
Did I miss some thing ?
As you know Most litre bikes have the speed limiter set @ 299.( Gents agreement from years ago) They still make them more powerful so they can get to the limit faster. Can't see the Jap and others doing anything here. What next..the 100hp limit ?
