Hi Guys, 01 1200 rider here

Post  SRAD_Pitt on Wed 18 Mar 2015, 10:36 pm

Hi all!

I've been back in Melbourne for about 4 months after 10 years in the UK, first thing I did when I got back was buy a bike. I settled on a K1 Bandit 1200, pretty stock with about 45k kms.
Since getting it I removed the fairings and fitted drag bars, fitted a Delkevic mid pipe and slip on, HEL front brake lines and an Ivan's jet kit. It's livened things up a bit, but still doesn't have the top end of the Bandit I owned in London. I have no idea what was done to that bike, unfortunately! I'm thinking it maybe had GSXR cams as well as the full system and stage 3 Dynojet.

Anyway, I'm rambling on a bit.

Everyone loves pictures, so here's one from a month ago at Broadford. I'll be back there in a few weeks, it's a nice little track. I found I could do the whole circuit in third gear, which is nice for someone as lazy as me. The Pilot Roads were horrible on track BTW

Good work on the track buddy. I hated Michelin's, but lots loved them. I was surprised how well the bandit did at the track. I had a few buddies on r6s and I was keeping them very honest. I guess it depends how hard you want to ride it,a jack up kit helps too with tip in

Thanks!

I've had Pilot Powers on a Bandit before and really liked them, I opted for the Roads as there aren't many corners in Melbourne, now I regret it.

It's got a jack up kit, a previous owner installed it. I also dropped the forks a little, so turn in isn't too bad. Ground clearance is the main issue, but as it's my only source of transport I'll be looking for a dedicated track bike soon.

Welcome back to Oz and to the forum. I guess you didn't support the Poms in the cricket world cup then.

I went with them cos I'd only really heard good things and they're ok for the road. Not a great deal of feedback, but the life seems good and they should last through winter. I'm used to running interacts and the like on track, so my comparison is a bit unfair.

I got over there in 2005, the year they won The Ashes for the first time in what seemed like decades and everyone I met was a cricket fan, I thought the series was great, even though we lost. The next series when we won 5-0 nobody seemed interested in cricket any more. Go figure..  Very Happy

Welcome home fellow banditeer. Try a Timing Retard Eliminator. should improve HP output in the lower gears. That sound right guys?

Ah, I forgot about the 'wheelie wire'

"Ignition Retardation Wire
The Bandit 1200 comes with an ignition retarder that is designed to reduce engine/exhaust noise in 2nd and 3rd gear to pass noise emission testing. Some Bandit owners recommend disconnecting this wire to prevent the ignition from retarding in those gears (and losing power). The connector is a two way red/black and green/blue wire near the front of the left side cover panel. Note: This wire is only found on European Bandit models."

I'll have a look, but I don't think it's an issue with Aus models

2 guys from here with bandits(1200s) have them fitted and report improved performance so some more investigation could be in order
