Deodourisers??

Post  GSFBlue on Sun Jan 11, 2015 11:29 pm

Forumites,

A few weeks ago, I completed a seven hour ride that was conducted about 90% of the time in heavy rain. As a result my gauntlets and helmet liner eventually became damp (wet hair after a number of stops). After the ride, I dried everything out but a faint, dodgy smell remains in both the helmet and the gloves. The gloves have even been washed using a soft wool wash detergent and dried thoroughly.

Can anybody recommend an appropriate or specific bike-related product that might be useful for ridding my gloves and helmet of this lingering smell? I am concerned (and have heard) that some products may interfere with the integrity of the helmet, and a strong deodouriser could be overwhelming when using the full-face helmet after spraying/wiping/whatever.

I haven't experienced this problem before and, before you say anything, my personal hygiene cannot be questioned.........!!!

I would be interested in your thoughts, experiences or recommendations.

Thanks.

i suggest you shake baking soda in the helmet. Then, let it sit for at least 30 minutes, then using a vacuum cleaner crevice tool, vacuum it out. The baking soda will absorb odors, and you wont have a perfumed helmet.

sounds like a mold/fungal problem, so anything that fights those things, would be the cure.

$8 for the bottle and $33 shipping  affraid  Don't you just love how the US postal service charges everything as though you are shipping house bricks.

The link was only to show there are specific products available mate.  I'd assume any large bike accessories shop would have something similar.

But yes thank god for our public (for now) postal service.

I've used nil odour in the car before, it leaves a pretty distinctive odour for a few days, you'd want to air it out a while before sticking it on your head
