Yes and No.
It is a step in the right direction for motorcyclists, but.........
We were supposed to go to uniform national legislation well over a decade ago (SA adopted the Australian Road Rules in Dec 199, this varied in other states and territories), since that time there has still been a number of variations or exclusions to those rules in various jurisdictions.
now add to that:
These new rules will only apply in Queensland. Motorcycle riders riding interstate should check the relevant rules with the relevant licensing authority.
and
Before riding interstate, motorcycle riders should check the relevant rules with the licensing authority in any jurisdiction where they are riding.
and
Motorcycle riders and passengers should be aware that after Queensland has expanded its helmet range in early 2015, it will still be an offence to wear a helmet approved under the ECE 22.05 standard when riding in other Australian states or territories.
It's about time the States and Territories sat down again and sort the mess out before we end up back where we were pre ARR's
Re: changes to Qld motorcyclist laws
It just shows the utter lack of respect and concern for motorcyclists in general. This wish wash would not occur in laws for cars.

It does for cars to a certain degree but this takes it to a whole new levelHammy wrote:It just shows the utter lack of respect and concern for motorcyclists in general. This wish wash would not occur in laws for cars.
Re: changes to Qld motorcyclist laws
It's about time that Australia realised that it only has a population of just over 20 million and that all these bloody individual state laws are just a waste of time and money. Tell me what would be wrong with having an Australian drivers license and vehicle registration ?
Australia: Over governed and over taxed.
rant over.
