BLACKBUTT !
No, I haven't contracted some exotic rear end desease..... Yet. Blackbutt is where me mate John ( on the Princess Mary ), and I went for an overnighter Saturday. John had some family commitments so could only get away after lunch. I went over to the BIG island earlier and just went for a nice cruisy ride by myself , then went back to meet John at the barge. Hence the need to make the ride an overnighter. The weather has been absolutely marvellous for riding up here. We headed out to Esk. Refueled. And then a short blast up to the town of Blackbutt. Old timber town. Great history. Pulled up and there were quite a few bikes already there. Stepped into the bar and noticed it was a group of Ulyses riders from the Gold Coast. Some stayed at the hotel and others at the motel in town. The pub , publican, barmaids, food, was all fantastic. Had a great night. Plenty of fun and laughs. John retired early. As he does. Must be tiresome steering the heavy Princess Mary. I stayed up and "socialised" till midnight. Staggered to our room to find that John had locked himself inside. And me out ! Luckily I found the publican still up and he let me in with a master key. I think they must have some strange kind of insect up there at Blackbutt, maybe a Blackbutt Beetle that sneaks into your room at night and shits in your mouth. Honestly. That's what my mouth tasted like when I woke around 6am. Up and off to find some coffee. Luckily they have a bakery right across the road from the pub. Well. The absolute BEST steak & kidney pie that I have ever tasted. The coffee was beautiful. Ahhh. Just what I needed. Then a little stroll around the town to get the blood flowing. Great little place with such interesting things. Forgot to mention that the publican, Shaun, is a biker as well. Well sorta. He has three HD's. Two oldies that he has lovingly restored. One of which his grandfather gave to him when he was just 18. I would guess that Shaun would be in his mid to late fifties now. Really nice bloke, and has good plans for the pub which he has only owned for a year. John and I said our farewells to all and headed off around 8:30. Heading back around through Yarraman and down to Crows Nest. Absolutely beautiful countryside, and nice roads. Lots to look at. When we got to Hampton I suggested that we then take a left and head to Esk. Over a nice piece of road that I had ridden a few weeks ago, but from the other direction. Again. Great vistas and top bike riding road. When we got to Esk we refueled again and decide to take a little detour to Laidley to check out a bike swap meet that we had heard about. We got there but could not find the meet. Might have been a secret Ducati one. ??. I then suggested we just head up the Warragoe Hwy and call into the Australian Bike Museum. Great choice. Love looking at those rare and uncommon machines. It had been a few years since my last visit there, and they have some new, old bikes in the collection. They have a rare Trumpy, still in the crate, with zero miles on the speedo. What would that be worth ? Will post some pics up soon. Then it was time for a bite. The Sundowner Hotel is virtually next door to the bike museum. Fish n chips. Then a quiet cruise back to Redland Bay and onto the barge home. Think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow last night. 720 ks of wonderful riding for me. A couple of hundred less for John. We both loved it.

You need to be careful if you go away with a mate & wake up with a funny little taste in your mouth
Sounds like you had a great time & a great ride........it's good to get away even for only a day or two

Re: BLACKBUTT !
Thanks Hammy always great to hear about peoples rides, was up you way weekend before last, I really liked it around Cleveland, didn't get to check out the rock. Time taken up with a wedding and a Birthday and catching up with a long time mate who lives near Ipswich now.
Have you been to the one at Nabiac, Mark?
I thought you might have mentioned the local Blackbutt.

The Nabiac motorcycle museum is awesome. I have been a few times and each time spent a good few hours wandering around.
I was thinking that it would be a great excuse for a Bandit meet, one day. With the northern stretch of The Buckets Way and The Wooton Way so close.
For anyone who has not been, The museum at Nabiac, near Taree.NSW, has over eight hundred bikes and untold bits and bobs such as Dale Walker's bike (Australia's Evil Kneavel) and hand made jump suit. It even has the RC31 that you see kn the Shannons add.

The Pumpkin Festival was on the sunday that we were there. The locals were talking about it in the pub. I told some of them that they better get home and "polish" their pumpkin. Got some funny looks.

Re: BLACKBUTT !
I rode through both of them just over 2 years ago on the way from my mates at Moranbah to Gayndah for a overnight stopover, my daughter and I both commented at the time we wished we'd had enough time to explore some of the roads away from the highway while we were theretalon440 wrote: Monto, Biloela all around there has great roads,
Re: BLACKBUTT !
Even the relatively short section between Esk and Blackbutt has a wonderful hill climb section that is smooth with excellent sweepers. Great stuff.
