Double your under seat storage
I am not sure if this topic has been covered before but I thought I would share it in case anyone was interested.
I have always thought it is a waist of space having the big plastic box for the tool kit to sit on.
So all I did was cut the box out and replace with a few pieces of aluminium sheet and siliconed them in place to hold and seal. Very easy to do and has now doubled the tool box area.

It's an excellent idea. I can't for the life of me figure out why that area is built the way it is. Only thing that I can think of is that the engineers decided that it would be a good idea for the tool kit not to be in any sort of hollow, lest it end up sitting in a pool of water, OR someone early in the piece had the spot eyeballed for a bit of electronic gear, but the idea got scrapped and we got the inverted box, in place of a half baked idea. What can happen when engineers don't talk to one another.
A sensible improvement.

There's a picture ??
I do recall one on the members modifying that area and fibreglassing up the "hole". You can also remove the isolator/dampers bolted to the inside of the frame under the seat lock mechanism. I did this (thanks Gus), and now there's enough room to stuff a puncture repair kit and a tool kit.

With the R & G tail tidy and "Gus's Knobs" removed I can get the Tomcat compressor and puncture repair kit in under the tail.
A more expensive option but a much more attractive tail as well

Whats the best way to remove those rubber knobs, can you do it without stripping the sides off the bike?
Also, madmax, where did you get your tail tidy?

Removing Gus' knobs, I think I used an 8mm socket. I reckon they came off when I had all the body work off when I wired up my pro-oiler.
Found it!!! Was Dhula with his underseat mod......

Yes I took them out without stripping the rear of the bike down, it was damn awkward from memory. However if your thinking of buying the R&G tail tidy you will need to completely strip down the rear anyway.
Cam did a great write up on installing the tail tidy here
I got the tail tidy through AMC, you can find them in the for sale section under business traders

Re: Double your under seat storage
Also consider another of Gus's mods - drop the battery lower in the carrier (this only applies to non-ABS models as this is where the ABS init sits)
