Tank Bags....Again.
After trying different style tank bags and not really finding the "right" one, I decided that they ( tank bags ) weren't for me. Well I'm planning a big ride so I thought I might need as much luggage space as I can get without going into panniers. I have invested quite a few $$$ in Ventura luggage, so may as well use it. I came across an ad on fleabay that took my eye. A Bagster tank cover to fit my... Blackbird ( I tried to say that softly ) .
Mmmmm. Gots me thinking and surfing. Well I gots me the cover at a really cheap price and have bought a new bag to go with it. This one : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261417239639?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
I think I like the idea of the tank cover on a long trip. Less worry about scratching or dinging the tank. And as well the tank bag doubles as a back pack. Will post my thoughts when I get both items and installed.
Cheers.

Re: Tank Bags....Again.
Take LESS luggage or borrow my throw over soft pannier bags . The next time I go to Tasi i'll definitely use them as the Ventura bag system carries the weight too high . I looked at the tyre mark used after some nice corners and I had huge chicken strips .I looked at other bikes with high luggage and they
were all the same ; High weight is your enemy .
How do you make something more stable.
Ans= Widen its base or lower its centre of gravity
Abut tha onle ting I can rememba from schol .

Yes you would. And they can be handy to sorta rest on as well. Hopefully I would not have to have it fully extended.

I love tank bags! I had a bagster on my ZZR1100 and loved it. Since then I've never been in a financial position to get another bagster. The trusty magnetic tank bag serves me well albeit leaving the tank looking a bit second hand (bandits crap paint!). Fully expanded gives you somewhere to rest your arm/chest. If a bagster came up at the right price....I'd grab it.

Re: Tank Bags....Again.
I use the Givi Tank-lock system with a TPH-02 bag. This is a locking ring and the bag clicks to that. The one I use is the smaller size, but a mate has the bigger one and it holds a lot.
The setup is brilliant and I use it daily as it is so handy. I had a magnetic bag but hated the scratches it left no matter how clean the magnets were. Not as cheap as a magnetic bag but worth every cent in my opinion. The bag is coated in plastic and although it has a rain cover, I have never really needed it.
Here's my writeup and pictures: http://kewwibike.blogspot.co.nz/2012/04/givi-tph02-tanklock-bag-on-gsf1250.html

That's a cool aerodynamic trailer you have Barry. Is that hitched to your sidecar? Who is the mfr? camper or just a storage pod?

Re: Tank Bags....Again.
My solution for longer trips that take you to from hot to cold is to only carry warm weather gear and buy cold climate bits and pieces as required.
A few years ago with the missus on the back we went from Mackay to Victoria. I think we arrived at Ararat one arvo and were frozen solid.
We dropped into a Salvos op shop and purchased two of everything, trousers, jackets, scarves and gloves to put over our normal clothes. Two days later when we crossed the border to NSW we put the additional clothes into one of their collection bins. I recall the total purchase cost was around $12.
The other cold weather choice is thermal underwear. I think top and trousers cost around $40 and they will fit into your hand so not too much of a storage issue.
I was going to suggest pantyhose but was a bit concerned Paul might get a bit excited so will stick with thermal underwear.

I believe the fishnet ones can keep you warmer & they also breath as well so you don't get all sweaty

No. The fuel range was not so much an issue Jim. Could have lived with that. Yamaha in their wisdom decided NOT to put any counter balance shaft ( the BlackBird has TWO ! ) in the 1700cc Vee twin motor. A 500km ride was enough for me to know that it was not the kind of ride that I was looking for. Great bike for around town, and even for a blast in the hills. But not one to sit on for long rides. The Blackbird on the other hand, I call a
" sewing machine on steroids ". She is my second BBird.

This one Jim
It owes me $150 including the tank ring
It has only been used twice, briefly.
The strap that goes around the head stem has been removed (you don't need it)
with the ring $80+p
without $60+p
the tank ring on its own $20 including
At this stage the offer is for Jim only, if he doesn't want it then I'll create a separate add
