Have a laugh at My expence.
John Bonet and I went for a long overdue ride yesterday. Him on his Bonneville ( Queen Mary ), and me on the Blackbird. Bit of a mis match eh ? Anyway, we planned to go ride up Mt Nebo, across Mt Glorious, and then around the top of Lake Somerset and down Mt Mee. Over Mt Nebo. All sweet. Lovely casual ride. Get to the top and on a little ways. Hmmmm. No John. Where is he ? I pulled over and waited. Rang him. Nothing. Starting to worry now. Just about to go back when he shows up. "Did ya get lost" ? I asked. "No. I was talking to a policeman", he replied. Ohhhh. The top of Nebo is a tiny little village. 60kph. A copper in a black VW golf nabbed him coming head on doing 80. Was nice enough to reduce it to 79 so that he was in the lower bracket. $225 + 3 points. On we went. Stopped at Kilco for lunch and a cold one. I felt sorry for John so I bought him lunch. Was a great days ride and we set off back down Mt Mee towards Brissy. Lost John in the traffic so we made our separate ways back to the Barge depot. I was 2km from there when I got nabbed. Came around a bend. Saw them. Grabbed a handful of brake. Sorry ! we got ya. 75 in a 60 zone. My excuse about rushing for a barge did not cut it. The two young coppers were friendly enough. Had a laugh. $225 + 3 points. John rode by as I was being booked. I said to John that I think we were pretty lucky to have been caught in 60 zones instead of out on the open road in places. If you know what I mean.
On the way to Kilco at a tiny servo we chatted to a couple of guys. One on a Aprilia Fortuniosa thing. The other on a standard looking B-King. Not so Standard. The guy told me he put it on a Dyno last week. Pumped out 188 hp at the back wheel ! That is serious HP. We chatted for a while and we warned them about the black Golf. Nice guys. All in all. A great day. Just a little expensive.

That's really bad luck both of you copping it (pun intended) on the same day same ride.
Would has have cost you $248 + 3 points here in the nanny state.

Gee that sucks. The buggers are everywhere though. I've been lucky the last couple of weeks.
Pulled over twice and let off with a warning both times. I've been real careful since because I know what the third time will bring......

Re: Have a laugh at My expence.
You just had to pay your speeding license fee. That's all.
The way I see it, if the man wanted to stop you speeding, then you would loose your license when you got caught. But by taking a fee from you and sending you on your way, says that it's ok to speed so long as you pay for the privilege.
I even lost my license from point accumulation, once.
" No problem, sir. Just attend the RTA and pay a fee and you'll receive a 'probationary license'.
I pay my speeding license fee when asked, although I must admit that the price has gone up over the years.
Bad luck, Hammy.

Re: Have a laugh at My expence.
You know the worst thing about getting a speeding fine here in good old NSW these days?
You then get to pay full tote on your green slip until you get all your points back on your licence
That means, if we got fined $225 like you Hammy, it ends up costing us close to $1000 over about 3 years!

Bad luck Hammy, hope it didn't dampen the day anyway.
In Victoria that would have cost you $289 and 3 demerit points
Over by 25 it would have gone up to $397, 4points and an automatic 1 month suspension

Re: Have a laugh at My expence.
Ive banned myself from Mt Glorious on the week-end .The cops I can cope with. Its the amount of ambulances, picking up bike riders who ride like
idiots ,and have no qualms about taking out me coming the other way . 2 deaths on 3 rides was enough for me .
The last time I got pulled by the cops when I wasn't even moving .

Yes it would be a more enjoyable ride sometime on a week day. But that's the same anywhere. I recon the cyclists on Nebo were more of a worry. The Tour de France wannabies.

Re: Have a laugh at My expence.
bit of bad luck Hammy, but I think its part of the package deal whether we like it or not.
I remember going around Nebo-Glorious back in the early to late 80`s, and the road was basically yours. I knew it like the back of my hand, and went up every weekend for years.
I wouldn`t say its lost its appeal, its like everyone has mentioned... a bit too busy for me these days. Its a shame in some way.
I wish I could find that untapped haven somewhere that no one knows about, well..in Q.L.D anyway.
At least you still had fun, that's the main thing!!

Re: Have a laugh at My expence.
I feel for you. I've lost my licence twice in the past 11 years, although I have been good since 2006 and have not had a speeding fine in that time.
I think the $574 ticket and 3 month loss of licence hit home and I have slowed down since, especially on my home town roads.
In saying that, I am actually enjoying my regular rides a whole lot more as the slower pace (slower by 20-30 kph only) allows me to see a few more of the sights and scenery on the ride and also the bumps aren't as
severe at 80kph compared to 100-110kph.
I know we all give it a bit of a squirt to blow the cobwebs out and hopefully in time as we get older, the Police who pull us over respect us and the experience we have and judge our actions fairly. The Police who seem
to have an attitude and choose to enforce their position of power over us get very little respect back.!
We as motorcyclists have to show respect and not be giving our bikes the berries in built up areas or in view of the very critical public, as they can be quick to post footage on youTube or the media which gives us all a
bad name. Enjoying our machines above the signposted limit (out the back on country roads etc) can be enjoyed within reason but excessively should be done at the track!
Whats done is done, so you pay the fine but atleast you have an interesting story to tell around the bar! Keep biking.
