First up. I am sometimes silly.  I have a note from my Mum to say that that is OK.

I'm on another site now ( something to do with owning a different bike ) ,  and a question was posted some time ago by a member.  "How often do you REDLINE your bike"?  I read some of the replies and one caught my eye.   This guy states that he redlines his bike every day that he rides it. As much as he can.   I replied politely that he was an IDIOT and should not be on the road.
I could count the times in my bike riding life on one hand, how many times I have redlined my bikes.  I do not feel the need to do so. On a performance aspect. On the side of safety. And on the side of care for my engines. What are you guys n Gals thoughts on the matter.

'ps. Im probably going to cop some flack on the other site. But who cares. They are mostly Yanks and Canadians anyway.

Hammy this bloke can not be telling the truth if he is riding a Blackbird. You are breaking any reasonable speed limit in first gear for a start. Unless he is the Ghost rider or living in Germany on the Autobahns he is a tosser. Its not you is it, and your trying to make out its someone else?
The only time I think I redlined my Bandit was in a roll on with my mate on his Busa. He was totally impressed with the power of the Bandit 1200 as it was neck and neck for a short while, until the Busa went into Hyperspace.

I'm with you Hammy. Can't really see the point in screaming out to redline. I may have done it once or maybe twice on each bike I've owned.

Not me Jim.  I think some of these "Boy Racers" watch the GP bikes and think,  Ahhhh, that's how ya ride.  Not realising that a GP bike is not even in the same Ball Park/Universe.

I dont think I ever have but it depends on the engine. The FZ1 redlined at 11,500 and I know it pulled all the way to 11,000+ in most gears so I could have kept going. The VTR pulls up at 9,500 and I know I hit 9000 on sunday a couple of times. Why? because it was still pulling Smile
The Bandit wants you (me) to change gears at about 7500 and by then I'm usually travelling plenty quick enough anyway. I imagine the Blackbird to be similar in that it tops out before the redline.

I'd say wanker if on a Bird.

I think I have enough K's under my butt to know that you don't have to redline a bike ( especially just a road bike ) to get sufficient power out of it. Of course curiosity has gotten the better of me too, and I know that in first gear on the Bird at 9000 it is showing 100kph. She redlines at 10720. But who wants to hear the rev limiter ?  Think I ruffled a few Canadian feathers.  Could be all that winter when they can't ride.  Laughing

Maybe he sits with the front wheel against a brick wall trying to do burnouts?
I have only ever run to redline at Phillip Island coming onto the straight and not changing gear quick enough. Easy to do down there, but on the road never.
