Hypothetical Question
Hypothetically if someone had a couple of weeks off and wanted to head South before the Drake ride.
a) Where would he find some good roads on the South coast say around Eden looks doable in one day.
b) Where would they find some good lodgings?
c) Would any members be around for a visit/ ride? If so, what would be the best days?

Re: Hypothetical Question
cast has been off for a couple of weeks, Dr said no motorbikes for 6 weeks after cast removal .. but I need time in saddle to get ready for Drake. Right now its rain that's keeping me indoors.
Just thought .. you might be needing some dirty roads down south to tackle seeing as your on one of those dirty .. opps dirt bikes now.

Re: Hypothetical Question
Hi Peter,
If you wanted to add it to the front end of the Drake ride, you could o/night at our place Wed 26th and then head up through Wollongong on 27th, where I'm meeting Boatz and MadMax. Accommodation for that night for Boatz, MM and me is already booked so that might be an issue.
It is a busy period for me leading up to Drake which will limit, even prevent, a pre-Drake ride with you as I'm driving to Wollongong on Sunday 23rd and returning Tuesday 25th. I probably won't want to do much riding on the 26th and then we're off to Drake on the 27th. But a short ride on the 26th would be possible.
I recently posted some great roads in this region in another post - damned if I know where! Maybe someone can find it - it was in relation to someone else who asked a similar question. And I'm the laptop in Canberra, limiting my ability to draw a map for you. But here are the roads I mentioned - I'll leave it to you to google map them into a plan:
1. If you're coming down the Princes Hwy from the north, be sure to do the Bermagui to Tathra road (about 40kms).
2. The Snowy Mts Hwy from it's start just north of Bega (off the Princes Hwy) west through to Bemboka and then up Brown Mt is great.
3. Mogilla Rd from just out of Bemboka to Candelo is also great.
4. Candelo to Wyndham over Myrtle Mt is good (and a bit technical).
5. Wyndham to Cathcart, then Bombala over Mt Darragh is great (a bit patchy early on but racetrack perfect after that).
6. Sth Pambula to Wyndham was good but there was some atrocious roadworks recently leaving 100s of metres of loose stones - no good in that condition but great if not.
7. Further to our sth, Imlay Rd is a matter of opinion - it is a logging rd and last time I did it it was badly potholed and badly patched. Unless it has been fixed, I'd avoid it.
8. Again, further to the sth is the Cann Valley Hwy and it is a great run, particularly the twistier Victorian bit.
9. To the west of the Cann Valley Hwy is the Bonang Hwy with 105kms of twisties - some 600+ corners one after the other - it runs from Orbost in Vic to Delegate in NSW, then Bombala. There is about 15kms of dirt however.
Hope that helps. Phone me if you'd like to discuss.
Jim might like to add.

Re: Hypothetical Question
Hi Dave, thanks for taking the time to reply.
I look forward to catching up with you at Drake.
I cant front end that ride because my brother is going with me on the Friday. Hopefully we can intercept you guys at Armidale.
I've had a look at some of your suggestions and have been able to incorporate them into a plan.
Leaving Friday I will travel down and stay somewhere in Coleman Country before continuing down and meeting Chris (aka The Incredible Shrinking Man) on Golden Ponds () Saturday night.
Hopefully a ride with Mr Wheels on Sunday before returning Monday via an overnight at Taralga (unless someone suggests an interesting alternative).
Jim has previously, generously shared his maps from the Alpine ride, so I have plenty of roads to ride. I just don't have any recommendations on Pubs to stay at on the South Coast.

Re: Hypothetical Question
No worries Peter. Which Friday are you down? If its this coming Friday (21st) then stay at our place if that suits you. I'll PM the address and you can see whether it fits into the route planning.

Re: Hypothetical Question
I sort of came into this a bit late, mr recycle you will be venturing down to our fine neck of the wood, this friday night your stopping off at the dark side of the endor moon, Saturday i am snooked as i have a wedding to video, sunday you are travelling back to tralaga,.
As i am family less friday night as my wife is away on a work junket and my daughter has ditched me for better company i could join you at ewoks for a few of ewoks famous american swil, or my byo carlton dry
Then i could see if i could catch up with a sunday ride to bermi or somewhere
I will wait for further instructions

Re: Hypothetical Question
Of course, normal etiquette protocols apply, ie at a minimum BYO drinks! James, you're welcome to stay for dinner - please also bring desert, ie cheesecake or the like. Cheers.

Re: Hypothetical Question
Hypothetical ride was a virtual success, brace yourselves for a hypothetical ride report when I'm sufficiently recovered.
