Speedo Healer Empty Speedo Healer

Post  GGiant Tue 11 Feb 2014, 3:32 pm

Sorry if I am in the wrong part of the forum with this.

I was just wondering if the Speedo Healer is a device that is just fitted and that's it - it works, OR if it somehow needs calibrating to road speed by GPS or other.

I am thinking of getting one fitted.

Thanks GG

Mate the Healer needs to be calibrated. It comes with a clear instructions, and there is even an app that calculates the change you need to make. I have played around with my gearing a bit so love the unit.

Thanks bandits.

So do you reckon a bloke of pretty fair/reasonable bike electrics skills could fit one, or best left to fit at the bike service shop?

I am having my overdue 6000km service asap and was going to get a Healer fitted?

Cheers GG

It's a piece of cake GG.  No different to adjusting the clock for daylight savings.

Be aware that you will negatively affect the odometer by whatever percentage you select to correct the speedo (which is about 7% out at 100kmph as it comes from the factory).  This means that if you set it at, say, -5% (leaving about a 2% error), for every 10,000 kms you travel according to your odometer, you'll have actually travelled 10,500kms.  So, a 6,000 kms service will arrive when the odo shows 5,714kms since the last service (that's with -5% set).  Hope that makes sense.

Tks Ewok, so it does come pre-set at say 7% correction and you can tweak it if needed, say off a GPS (if I had one) - would this be right?

No it doesn't come pre-set to any number (well, not the Healtech one), ie it is set to zero.  You can make the change positive or negative, which means it doesn't matter what you do with sprockets, you can always set the speedo to be correct.  A -ve setting corrects an over-reading speedo and a +ve setting corrects and under-reading one (not that you should ever have an under-reading speedo from a factory unit as it it in breach of the ADRs).  But as I said, it is as simple to set with its little push buttons as the clock is to adjust and it comes with full instructions.

Yep, I used a GPS to establish the initial error and corrected it from that.  You could also adjust as the tyres wear but that would be very anal.

Okay thanks everyone. Will have a go myself and set -7% initially to get me going.

GG. I recently fitted two Yellow Box speedo healers.
They're an Aussie made product, or were may have gone overseas by now. I don't mind giving them a plug as they are an excellent product. 10 year warranty.
I calibrated mine by using a free gps speedo app on my phone, taped to the tank, so that I could work out the original speedo error. Ran the bike to 100km/h on gps and read 108 on bikes speedo. Therefore dial Yellow Box to correct fir 8%. Easy.

Cheers.

I have access to calibrated gear and -7% gave me 100k at 100k.  The 1250 Bandits seems consistently at the -7% mark, i.e. An indicated 100 is actually 93.
