Looks pretty good. I like that you can use a standard mount. I hope its easy to use in terms of on/off like the Contour is. And the price is very competitive considering what it can do.

looks interesting, & being Sony, it should be pretty good.....
pricing though, I wonder how much premium will need to be paid by the Aussie consumer

Yeah I had that thought too, but then that is why the internet was invented so we can circumvent greediness.

Resurrecting this one....
I've been contemplating an action cam for a while and am a little stumped about the best way to go. GoPro, Contour or second generation Sony action cam? I'm drawn to the Sony due to the compactness and the image stabilisation etc, and looking at the various reviews, the colour reproduction seems pretty good. Has anyone tried the latest Sony? This footage was taken with the Sony. It's worth watching regardless cos its footage from the 2013 IOM TT. Any thoughts opinions welcome. Thanks

Good timing Bill - the current AMCN (the one with Casey Stoner on the front) has a review of six current recorders including the Sony. I'd be breaching copyright if I scanned and posted the Sony test and comments but I think I can safely say which one of the six they recommended - the Contour Roam2. But I'm sure JimColeman has an opinion!

I hasnt had a great write up, and you have use the waterproof housing when mounting it anyware

Re: New Sony ActionCam with HD and WI-FI
Well.... I've been quoted $385 up here for the Sony. Looked further into it and have decided against it. One of the things I like about the go pro (and contour) is the timer function for still shots. A friend has one and travelling around North Africa last year had it set for a shot every 5 seconds when walking through village markets and the like. Some of the photos interacting with locals are brilliant. Unstaged, unsuspecting natural etc. Sony has no timer and lowest still resolution. So yes Jim, its now between the gopro and the contour.
Contour might be the pick due to profile. My wife also reckons she'll stick it on her helmet when she takes the horses bush bashing. (They go places my DR wouldn't)
Thanks for the replies. Made me look a little closer
