TB balance ....... Empty TB balance .......

Post  gus Thu 13 Jun 2013, 5:42 pm

I tried to balance my throttle body's the other day .Number 1&2 were way high on the scale and 3&4 were low .No amount of turning the air screws would get them to all read the same level .
This is what I learned .
The 4 throttle bodies are actualy 2 separate pairs joined together.
In the center front of the tb's there is a screw with a spring both sides .This screw balances the two pair . Mine took half a turn to bring the high reading
down close to the RHS .
Minor adj was made with the air screws .
If you readings look something like this  II..    Look for the balance screw first .

Dhula wrote this a while ago & is pretty helpful if you read the whole thread for anyone thinking of trying it

The center screw should never need adjusting unless some clown has taken to it thinking it is the idle speed adjusting screw (a lot of peeps think it is and cock things up when they play with it)
You need to be a little careful when adjusting the center screw on the bike as it can cause the throttle plates to stick in the boars due to not being done properly. I'm sure there will be peeps that will tell you that's crap, but I';ve seen it first hand. Please make doubly sure that the throttle opens smoothly to WOT and snaps shut (let the twist grip go) without sticking shut at either end.
The ideal way to adjsut that screw is on the bench so you can measure the plate to bore clearance (tricky sometimes). Doing it on the bench does a couple of things; ensures there will be no sticking of the plates in the bores and checks that all TB's are opening at the same rate to the same amount.
The latter is important if you want each cylinder to get the same AF charge and be running the same. You can get away with them being a little out on a L4 but makes a hell of a difference when you get it spot on on a V2

I'm wondering if we are talking about the same screw .There is another one that stops the
butterfly's closing to much or not enough .THAT ONE I didn't touch .

The one on my bike that was touched had a spot of white paint on it... later was told by a Suzuki mechanic not to ever touch adjusting screws etc with white paint on them..
