Hi Guys

Just joined the bandit club with a purchase of a near new 2011 GSX1250FA - in good nick with only 6000ks. I'm in my mid 40's. The cruiser side of things has never really appealed... I just love the sport / touring style - seems to be the best of both worlds to me. I'll be looking to add a set of panniers and perhaps a bit better wind protection (Im a tall guy). But I remain a relative novice so hoping to get plenty of tips etc from the forum.

Here she is...

Welcome aboard FlyingSmithy. There's been a bit of recent discussion regarding panniers. I use a set of throwovers myself and a ventura rack - not very waterproof and the throwovers can pull to one side if they're not packed evenly, ie don't put the jocks and socks on one side and all the red wine on the other.

Ok - I see there has also been a post on Givi V35s - Im leaning towards them at the moment but they are frightfully expensive.

Welcome to the forum Smithy

Buy them from overseas, ebay, you'll find it much cheaper.

Welcome aboard FS. Another QLDer. Yeh ! Looks nice. Check out the " Zero Gravity " screens. They do a nice looking tall touring one. Enjoy. May meet up on a ride sometime.

Welcome aboard.
at 183cm I find the stock screen ok. I didnt when I first got the B1250 so give it some time and be aware that different riding gear can make a difference too.

I use a Ventura rack and bags because I bought a bike not a bus Wink

190cm tall for me so at this stage I feel like Im getting knocked around a bit with the stock screen... also I've noticed a whistle in my right ear on my Shoei XR-1100 since jumping on this bike - so I may need to adjust those visor mounts a bit to see if I can close up any seals.

I had a ZG sport touring screen on my last bike and found it fantastic... so perhaps will go there again. In terms of luggage, yes I've done the Ventura thing - great system particularly for commuting, but not quite enough space if Im touring further afield...

Im sure I'll get it all set up right in good time...

Thanks Four40 - what sort of shipping do they charge and how long to ship? I was quoted $249 from a local guy for the PLX side case racks which doesn't actually compare too bad... the cases themselves though look to be a lot cheaper from TT.

I bought my Givi set of panniers and top box about 12 months ago from an Italian Bike shop on recommendation by a couple of other forum members here and on TWT.  Shipping was 190 Euro (about AU $233 back then), there was no hassles with Customs, breakage, everything arrived safe, brand new, I was very happy with the overall transaction, took 7 days door to door.

Here is a breakdown of what I ordered along with the AU prices back then and todays exchange rate.  Not sure if any item has changed price since then, hopefully they are about the same.  You could get better prices from US sellers if they are moving old stock, but getting everything from the one shop is what convinced me to go with this mob:

G'day mate, welcome along.
The bike's looking good, is that an airhawke I see on the seat there?

Yes - it's an airhawke... makes the stock seat almost bearable.

Thank God for the Airhawk guy.... although im thinking something made of a gooey gel yet holds its shape, could be even better

Tried one of those... bottom line I think is the AirHawke is better.  Being able to adjust the inflation is a great feature.

I got it from:

http://www.amcmotorcycles.com/

I quite like it - Im a tall guy and it takes care of a lot of the wind buffet - much better than the stock screen for me.
