Using a tweezers, the controls can be moved. All cables and linkages are in place to work the wing control surfaces as well. Young Park has since carved a pilot's face and hands from solid aluminum and built an articulated pilot to sit in the cockpit. (Photo: George F. Lee, Honolulu Star-Bulletin)
Here's pic of fingers and tweezers to give scale......... Sooooo small!!! Remember this as you look at the pics....All the controls work as designed, by cables, chains, linkages and levers






All these controls WORK!!!!!........ And that means they work the parts
of the aircraft via rods and chains as in the original aircraft!!!!
Every single part hand made and fitted. It blows you away, doesn't it???






Don't forget the tiny scale..... Go up again and look at the pic of the fingers and tweezers!












Machine guns and bullets.........Detail of three ..50 Cal. Machine guns and ammo cans.
Ammo cans are loaded outside the aircraft and then simply set into place in the wing.
Their doors become the top surface of the wing. This allowed for rapid reloading by the ground crew.








Mr. Park generously donated the first (cutaway) Corsair model to the Joe Martin Foundation. It can be seen in person in its display at the Foundation's museum in the Sherline building in Vista , California .. A collection of photos showing how the model was built and all the historical data on the Corsair Mr. Park collected to build it has also been donated and is available for viewing. In 2005, Mr. Park also donated the second corsair and it is also now on display in the Foundation's museum.


Showing the extent of his carving skills, Mr. Park sculpted a pilot's head and hands out of
solid aluminum. The articulated figure is dressed in a custom made uniform and can be placed
in any position to give a good sense of scale to the model.

Inside the left wing you can see the .50 cal ammunition threaded into the three wing guns.
Each round is machined in 3 parts­brass cartridge with copper bullet and primer and is
held together with a small copper feed jacket.

The wing being made.............. LOOK how SMALL it is

Each panel is hand formed over a wooden shape. The metal is annealed to the proper softness and then pounded and bent into shape.
The plane is made up of many individual panels, and the fits between panels are just about perfect. (Y. Park photo)

Crazy man...!

This is mine, a 1/5th Scale 80cc petrol powered Hawker Tempest MkV.

I've been building it for just on 2 years and now getting toward the pointy end... 8ft Wingspan - finished weight will be somewhere in the vicinity of 35 - 40lbs.. Will be painted up in the colour scheme of 'Pierre Clostermann's' "J FE" from his autobiographical book "The Big Show".
All gear retracts, full flaps. Will hopefully have it ready for a maiden flight within the next 10 - 12 months!


All main bits in place on lounge room floor..

Fiberglass moulded cowl - 7" spinner! (Will have a 24 - 26" prop)

Wing before ailerons in place - I'm about 6ft 3" tall..

Scale main gear U/C - 5.5" dia wheel

Paint scheme - what it will be.... eventually....

I've been building flying model aircraft since I was a youngster but this is the largest and most expensive project by far!

And No Ewok, I didn't intend to do the invasion striped version (although I do like the way they looked; apparently in real life they were just painted on pretty quickly with a broad brush so actually looked fairly 'rough' - I guess that goes for most wartime aircraft though)
... I'm planning to put panel lines and rivet marks on it though - a few weeks work there alone!

Well just let me know if you change your mind - I'm an expert at 'rough painting' and happy to contribute!

Nice one Bhuffo. Be sure to keep posting up some pics so that we can follow your progress. I di a brief stint of RC flying with an old mate. He was into it in a big way. 6 foot wingspan plane, choppers. Was good fun. But I didn't like crashing too much. Not much left when they hit the dirt. I did enjoy building them though.

I've never flown a 'chopper' they are apparently way too difficult! I fly mainly 'Control-line' Aerobatic models and some Radio, I've a mate who flys only R/C and big models and he's to blame for me getting involved in building the Tempest. He's currently building a Turbine powered (Turbo prop via a gearbox) PC21 - 33% scale - a huge model!
You're right about the crashing though - not much fun in that! I'm going to have to go out and get alot of R/C flying practice before I take the controls of the Tempest.
I'll put bits and pieces up here and videos when I've something new to show...
