RadGuard - Radiator Protection
First topic message reminder :
I reckon that fitting some sort of radiator guard to any water cooled bike is very important. Obviously this is something people with an air cooled Bandit need not worry about (same as my old GS500F).
Getting a hole in your radiator will not only ruin your day and leave you stranded but it will cost heaps if it needs replacing. I fitted a RadGuard to my bike and I'm really happy with the effectiveness and the look. It's a really strong cover that shouldn't affect air flow too much. It's not the cheapest product but considering the km's I do I think it's worth it in the long run.

anyway its obviously not as heavy duty as the radguard but it looks like it will keep rocks out. spence has seen it and says the colour is ok but i think if i was doing it again i would get black
[although its a bit different!]
Nah it looks good. Good job you did there btw

I have a radguard and a fender extenda also.Havnt had any troubles so far,and FYI,a genuine suzuki radiator for a bandit is 980 bucks,so i think a radguard,although a little expensive,is cheap insurance

Radiator guard
I've installed a radguard. It looks good but does mean things run a little hotter city commuting - fan comes on more regularly.
The radiator is so HUGE and gives off a lot of heat normally - can be a bit uncomfortable commuting in summer.

Rad Guard comes good
Don't you just HATE it when you order an item over the Internet from Interstate, and the new guy in the warehouse sends the wrong item!
Don't you just LOVE it when you ring up and the person on the other end of the line is pleasant; confirms the facts quickly; apologises sincerely; and gets the right item out in express courier delivery within the hour, so that it arrives the next morning and fits perfectly.
Thanks to Paul of Rad Guard Australia.
My trip to Melbourne to be with my mum for Christmas Day can now happen without the fear of the Bandit 1250 having a radiator chocked with locusts.

Re: RadGuard - Radiator Protection
Well, went for a nice long ride today in the SA Riverland and rode through millions of those bloody locusts ...... but, i tell you what, i was glad i had a radiator guard on when i got home to clean the dead little bastards off my bike, stopped a lot of them getting mashed up inside the radiator fins..... oh and glad i had a screen too for all you naked riders.... my mate was on a cruiser and he got plastered in the lil pricks, i just got down behind the screen.

Re: RadGuard - Radiator Protection
210banditsa - Glad to read how helpful the RadGuard was with the locusts - but really interested to know how fast you rode when you were amongst them. Were they on the road itself, or all airborne? Was tyre traction compromised or were you forced to go so slow it wasn't an issue? I have a semi-faired Bandit, but I don't know if my old bones will let me get down low enough to get much protection. I was almost home the other day when I saw a large wasp just as it slammed into my full-face Shoei at a measely 60 kph - I definitely felt it and it made a theatrically loud bang as it disintergrated on the chin guard. I'm wondering what slamming into 1 billion fat locusts at 110 kph will be like.
P.S. Did you take the radiator guard off to clean the bike? Any clues about removing smashed locust guts out of radiator fins?

Re: RadGuard - Radiator Protection
As luck would have it, i got caught in the thunderstorm and torrential rain as well today, after the locusts too, so it actually cleaned a lot of them off me and the bike, and i only needed to remove the ones caught in the 'crevices', but yes i did pull it off and lightly brushed the fins with a toothbrush to remove the crispy last bits. Mate, i didnt slow down at all, however there was not a mashed carpet of them on the road, kinda more in thick waves- none, then heaps. I did however slow for the worst part of the rain, i couldnt see any of the texture of the road surface, just a wave of water washing towards the shoulder.

Re: RadGuard - Radiator Protection
Installed my RadGuard yesterday. Ordered a polished finish guard but changed my mind and wanted a black one instead. Paul of RadGuard immediately couriered the new one to do a swap. What great service

I would have thought the polished one would suit the Silver FA. I know it looks good on the dark blue FA.

Yeah I thought so too, then I saw a pic of a black one installed and it disappeared inside - very nice
Thanks Four40 btw for pointing out the clips that held the fairing together, installed the guard without any drama.
Now waiting for R&G crash knobs and Triboseat to arrive. Considering a Scottoiler oiling system but it does cost quite a bit unfortunately
