Single seat mod self certification qlders

Hey all, not to sure if anyone has tried this since the new changes came into effect. In qld your now able to self certify your single seat mod   . Pretty easy and they don't need to sight the bike   . I did mine yesterday with no dramas.

As you know I also have single seat rego.

What bothers me is that as there is no inspection by Queensland Transport, the responsibility rests entirely with you.

My modified seat is under 500mm long but the "hump" on the back is still probably more comfy than a lot of other bikes as noted by Bosco.

I have removed the pillion pegs and the right side bracket but retained the left one to hang my helmet on.

I have not drilled out the threads that the brackets bolt to.

In my opinion my modification is not fully compliant

The problem as I see it is that if you are pulled over and booked for non compliance in the opinion of the policeman then you have no one to support you.

Where do you go or who do you turn to from here?

I would much rather have had the bike inspected and relevant photos of the modification put on file with Queensland Transport.

It is a risk people might have to factor in if they aren't going the full hog, I'm removing both rear foot pegs, and have a new exhaust hanger on the way, in reality I could only see this being an issue if you had a prang and someone was on the back, I don't ride with pillions on my bike, so for me it's a nice saving and cleans up the bike.

I had mine done 5 weeks ago from a shop, and they didn`t ask me to drill out the threads. They were happy for me to fill the threads with  silicon, and only remove the brackets not required  anymore.

Reason they allow that method, was so you could reverse the process if needed, without damaging existing parts.

Yep, I hear you however, what I said earlier about you, the rider being the responsible person is in my opinion the most important point. You're the one who is going to cop the fine.

Here are the specific paragraphs

[*]To convert a single piece two-seater seat, a removable cowling or similar structure cannot be fitted over the rear upholstery to reduce the upholstered section to 500mm or less. The excess upholstery must be cut and removed, leaving the seat structurally sound and finished in a professional manner with no sharp edges or protrusions, the pillion foot pegs and associated brackets must be removed and all threaded mounting holes drilled out.
[*]For two-piece seating, if the front section upholstery is 500mm or less, the rear section can be removed along with the rear pillion foot pegs and associated brackets and all threaded mounting holes drilled out.
As I explained my modification in my opinion does not comply with the above as I have left one bracket in place (I have glued a clear reflector over the mounting holes on the right side) and have not drilled out the threaded holes. The wording is very specific.
I guess it comes down to your relationship with the policeman who is writing out the ticket and his specific knowledge of the legislation.

I'm feeling lucky

All my bike are solo rego ,all have a compliance plate fitted to the frame .

I sort of understand the purpose of drilling out the foot peg mounts, but they are also the locations where the Givi pannier and top box mounts are fixed:



You could maybe remove the swivel peg on the right, but on left it is the actual peg pivot bolt that is used for the pannier lower mount.

So technically you can't have solo rego and hard cases......Gus stop smirking

I`ve done exactly what the shop asked of me, no drilling, and a compliance plate to go with it.

So the way I see it, if I get pulled over, I`ll show them the compliance plate, and it will fall back upon the shop for their compliancing ways, not me.

As long as there is no-one  the back I don't think the cops would worry .They probably got you for speeding anyway .
