Gears getting stuck....
G'day to all,
I have read through a lot of the posts in the mechenical section and havn't found anything similar. Recently on a trip to Teneterfield(We live in Refdcliffe QLD) and return I had difficulty shifting back through the gears from 4th-3rd-2nd-1st. They required a bit of effort to downshift, like stomping on the lever. Only downshifting not up. And hardest between 2nd-1st. Similar to no clutch. No clutch creep at all when in 1st at stop. It only started to do this on our return journey until then I had never had any trouble with the gears. I am thinking maybe my oil is not good for the bike as I have read in other posts that oils aint oils when it comes to the Bandits. Mine GSF1250s 2008 33,200km on the clock. Oil Fuchs Silkolene Comp 4 10w40-API SG, SH & SJ, JASO MA.(1200km since change) Maybe a big job or just maybe an oil change??? No I don't wish to start an oil flame debate. But I hope someone can help.
Thanks for any assistance.

Gears getting stuck....
Mine was stiff on down change when new but is ok now . your oil could have got a bit thin , so you could try 10w50 semi synthetic & see how it goes ( I use motul 5100 for what it`s worth )

Re: Gears getting stuck....
That's going to be my 1st port of call Paul. It is what I suspect but was wondering if anyone had similar problem. These bikes have a reputation for almost bullet proof gearboxes but there's always a 1st time. Thanks for your reply mate.

Re: Gears getting stuck....
My GSF1250s (2010 model) was bad for sticking on the way up if I accelerated hard, particularly 3rd to 4th. Now with 30,000kms on the clock it doesn't seem to do it - at least it hasn't happened for a long while. Maybe the box is just wearing in. There was a lot of talk (that would be rubbish) about 'the usual slick Suzuki gearbox' in early test reports when the water-cooled model came out but there is plenty of evidence on this forum's discussion (and now elsewhere) that the 6 speed box is very truck-like. I'm assuming it is a good sign that it will last until the next ice age. There are other posts that point to experiences with different oils.

Re: Gears getting stuck....
Mine does exactly what yours does, sometimes it wont change down at all until you have stopped completely. It does it so rarely though that I just put it down to being new.

Your oil should be fine and I haven't experienced what you are so I'm a fat lot of good
Make sure the linkages are free and not binding. Gus has a lube trick for the main shifter pivot.

I don't have any problem with mine apart from the occasional clunk into first from second at a roll. I use Castrol 4T as recommended by Suzuki Benalla. Shell Advance SX is a mighty fine drop as well

+1 for Shell. Only most bike shops try to sell you Motul

Re: Gears getting stuck....
Thanks for the imput folks. I don't think it's linkages as it only did it going down the gears into 3rd, 2nd and 1st. The oil has the right specs but it only started doing it as the oil has darkened so I guess I will start with an oil change and see what happens. I will also check the linkages.

Re: Gears getting stuck....
I used that oil and compared to Belray Semi Synthetic it felt shit.
I dumped it after a few thousand and went back to Belray EXP semi synth. Fixed the problem straight away.
I know certain people like certain oil, but this is totally from my own experience. If the Silkolene was good I'd stay with it as it's cheaper.

Mine got Belray at the 1000km service and Shell at the 6000km one, I haven't noticed any difference (have done 3000km on the Shell)
