Madstad screen
Has anyone tried/ used/ have, a madstad screen on their bandit? If so, what's the verdict?

Re: Madstad screen
Never put one on my bandit but if it works as well as the ones I have on the stroms it should be worth it for sure.

Re: Madstad screen
I've got one on my F800GS and it works great, but the GS is far from a streamlined bike and so can tolerate some slabbiness, but I'm nervous about outlaying the coin for one for my GSX FA as its a big slab of screen. It might work well but I'd really like to hear from anyone who's gone down the path. I don't want to start another screen debate tho cos they're a real personal choice thing and at the end of the day it's always going to be function over form. Im after better protection for long distance touring at reasonable speeds which may be two up. I'm finding the pics I've seen of the madstads on sports tourers a little challenging. The one below is from Madstads site.
And this is the screen madstad have designed for the GSX1250FA but Mark from madstad stuck it on his own VFR800 Interceptor in an attempt to give me some idea of the style...

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm having similar symptoms.
Maybe I'll take the lack of posts on this forum and TWT as a sign....

Re: Madstad screen
Last night, I was looking at my current MRA vario that I've got fitted and might first try a bit of suck and see approach to varying the size of the upper (adjustable) bit by making up a few differing shapes and widths. I have a friend with a picture framing shop who has some material off cuts and the gear to cut etc. a bit of creative heating here, bending there....never know I might be able to improve what I've got. If that fails I may go for the madstad and use the tall ugly bit for the long distance touring and then replace the tall screen with something more visually tolerable for everyday use. Good thing about the madstad is the actual screen bit can be swapped in seconds via the 4 'T' screws while still giving the adjustability via the brackets. I do similar thing on my GS when hitting the bush tracks so when I have my inevitable offs i don't break the main screen. Had a Bewdy the other day. Fell in a big pig wallow and the whole bike came down on top of me completely upside down. Still can't quite work out why I came out of it unscathed. The screen would have been history had it been on.
Can't fault Madstad (Mark) for his customer service tho. Very bloody helpful and quick to respond to questions.

I like my Madstad setup
I like the one I have on my 2011 GSX1250FA - it's nice as you can take the whole Madstad bracket and shield assembly off of the Madstad black metal mount part - (which looks just like a short stock black screen - sporty) - and then run that way too - if your in town and don't need the extra protection. But when you're traveling any distance and you want the front screen protection - you can put the normal Madstad screen / brackets back on to the metal mount part - and off you go. It's kind of the best of both worlds. Short black sporty around town screen looking setup - or the full blown touring windscreen setup

Re: Madstad screen
After my initial querying about the MS on a bandit I ended up modifying my MRA Vario https://nswbandits.forumotion.net/t2909-screen-question#36235
which ended up suiting my needs just fine and I like being able to adjust while riding. Best part was it cost nothing but a bit of time. I've now got a Madstad base with a home made screen on my BMW GS. The MS 18" screen gave great protection - too much really and i found i was always a bit too warm. i was also worried it was too weighty (5mm thick?) and on corrugated dirt roads and trails tended to shake the whole instrument and light assembly violently. was worried the whole lot would go south. After i modified the vario on the bandit I decided to also ditch the large Madstad screen on the Bavarian and made something a little more compact (250 mm shorter) out of 3mm Perspex (a lot lighter) that still gave adequate protection, didnt shake the crap out of the instrument binnacle and gave me some air back.

Re: Madstad screen
A barn door would also be effective for weather protection but I probably wouldn't put one on my bike.
