He's about 115 - 120 kg.
We have three other English Mastiffs, another male that could get bigger than this one, and two females who are light weights at 90 and 45 kg (but they are also only 18 months and 6 months).

That must cost you at least a cow a week to feed them all.

Re: Pets ?........
We live next to a school and have a special deal with the teachers, we get a bin of naughty kids a week
Actually they are very docile, sleep most of the time so there is not that much energy expended that needs supplementing. Food bill is quite modest, about 14kg of chiken mince and about 40kg of dry so it's not too bad.
It's everything else that costs, they were going through a canvas bag a week for their bedding, we now have industry strength nylon (that last about 2 months), the boys are on the largest chocker chains and are still growing so custom chains need to be made, and their harnesses and muzzles have to be imported as there is nothing here that is large enough.
And 60 litres of dog poo a week fills the garbage bins with little room for standard houshold rubish.

They used to stick up a lot. Now that he is just about deaf they flop down. I wonder if he thinks we have stopped talking to him because he can't hear us?

Barry,
I have two standard poodles and buy most of my pet products from
www.petedge.com
Even with rather high postage from the US I still save a fortune.

Re: Pets ?........
you`ll probably laugh at this pet, not mine, but my one of my brothers,
after knowing a few people with goats, and being around this one quiet a bit, they`re funny buggers I can tell you, and very smart.
a bit like a dog in some ways

These two made an interesting couple. Mali the dog moved on earlier this year but Twiggy Pig (see the avatar) is still oinking and shares us with one other dog, 5 horses a Rainbow Lorikeet and 5 chooks. This pic was taken 9 years ago.

Re: Pets ?........
She's pretty lardy these days. Probably around 110 -120? I know if she stands on ya foot it hurts. She was given to us when 2 days old and we had to bottle feed for the first weeks. She imprinted with our female Ridgeback and it was all good. As she grew larger the dog decided she was an ugly pup and they started fighting. When she became fully grown Mali would usually come off second best so we ended up having to lock her up when Twigster was let out to roam the block. She's a friendly old thing. Needs to go visit Jenny Craig though.mtbeerwah wrote:so what`s twiggy weight in at now?NTBill wrote:These two made an interesting couple. Re: Pets ?........
I don't have quite this amount (60 litres - WOW!!) with only two standard poodles but .......barry_mcki wrote:

I have been reading about backyard composters specifically for dog poo.
It seems the simplest one is a buried 200 litre plastic drum with a 150mm pvc pipe from ground level.
With the addition of some composting worms, dog poo should be a thing of the past.
If and when I get around to making a unit I will take some photos to share.
