What have you been up to
A lot of people have the job expertise to maybe help others on this forum & apart from being nosy it may be handy to know who has done what in the past / present job wise .I`ll start.
left school & went into printing for a short while & then left that & got into motor trimming which I`ve done most of my working life.
worked as a security guard ( patrols ) for a couple of years as a second job while still trimming.
worked for myself for about 15 yrs until I got cancer & then sold that business & had a sea change
& bought a 7 day mini mart which we did for about 4 1/2 yrs ( @ 90 hrs a week ) sold that & went back to trimming ( for a boss)
worked there until I got rheumatoid arthritis & had to give it away ( drugs , drugs & more drugs ) so then worked in a music store
for about 18 months until I had a heart bypass ( surprised a few people I even had one ! ) & then after that I ended up working back in motor trimming again for the last 5 1/2 years . This is some of the stuff we do in trimming if you were wondering what it was ( my current place of employment ) http://www.winnerproducts.com.au/ ( the web site is a work in progress but you`ll get the idea .) we also do vintage / normal run of the mill stuff etc as well . Ok that`s about my lot / who`s next ?

Re: What have you been up to
Mine is boring compared to yours Paul.
Left school at end of yr11 at 16 and left the farm to head for the badlands of Brunswick, Melbourne.
I was an apprentice Boilermaker catching a tram and 2 busses every day. I worked for Melbourne & Metropolitan Board of Works. Never actually made a boiler outside of trade school but worked on plant & equipment to do with supplying water and sewerage for Melb.
Imagine laying on your back in mud welding up a hole in a charged 1800mm water main. I had a smaller main let go on me once and had to be dragged out. Water that hasn't seen the light of day for 5yrs is bloody cold! Back on workshop duties I become the go to man for welding aluminum mg and tig repairs and construction. 10yrs of that and our workshops were privatised. Instead of redundancy I took a Rangers job in a park. How I got it without qualifications is still a mystery but I think they liked my practical attitude.
After working in several parks we merged with vic national parks & wildlife service and I have worked around the state since. Currently managing wetlands around Sale. Its a great job that lets me indulge in my photography hobby.
So i have been a state gvt employee for 30 years but I'm not a public servant thanks very much. I like what I'm doing.
There is a heap more but it will cost you a beer

What have you been up to
Mechanical I guess you'd call it. Was a Storeman at 15. Wrecked cars for another 8 years. Worked vineyards for 4. Worked with IBM for another 2. Ran textile machines for 3 and became a maintenance fitter (experienced but not Qualified) for another 12. Did some welding for 1. Now working for Schneider Electric as a maintenance fitter again. All skills were self taught and then refined over the years.

Re: What have you been up to
I'll try and keep the ball rollin. . . left school in yr 10 aged 16 to complete a boilermaking apprenticeship at Mount Isa Mines - went underground to get some quick dollers - married at 23 - left MIM after 16 yrs - moved to Townsville - now in quality assurance roll with another company for just on 10 yrs - bought my Bandit about 5 yrs ago because I had been told they were a good strong and reliable stunt bike, (like I will ever find that out)
That brings me to 45 yrs young, and today I completed my first ever engine oil and filter change on the bandit.

I think a great deal of satisfaction can be gained from working with your hands with skills learned .
It`s a good feeling to work on your own bike not to mention the money savings isn`t it truck .

I know what you mean about the problems following heart operations Gus ( I went back to work early to occupy my mind / crap feeling ) I`ve had 6 kids between my two marriages / think I have figured out what has been causing it though : trust me she said.......... HA my current range of drugs take care of my ticker ( still got small artery disease ) and the others take out my immune system so my body stops attacking itself (rheumatoid arthritis ) or relieve the symptoms when the others don`t work recreational drugs are limited to alcohol these days .

Re: What have you been up to
Strangly i was so happy when they told me i had depression .For six months i had felt terrible ,not depressed buy any means .Just churning tummy
and fast heart rate . They kept saying "there is nothing wrong with you ". The only time i WANTED them to find something .
Strange ,you dont have to be depressed, to have depression .I never understood it till i got it .

My turn I guess.
worked in a bakery at 13 (still can't make bread)
worked for TAA at 14 till 16 when I left school and joined the A team
did 20 years of what ever the govt at the time told me to
Left the A team (duno why I didn't go earlier, but that is hindsite for ya) in 2008 and spent 3-4 months bludging around the house
Went back to working for the A team as a govt employee doing auditing and compliance of procurements. Lasted 3 months in that one
Moved into submarines as an QA/QC dude late in 2008 and am still there but now mix it up a bit with health and safety stuff as the local WHS dude. If my job interview goes well this week will move into lead WHS dude soon after.

Re: What have you been up to
I left school at 15, near fully illiterate. diagnosed with learning disorder at 18. A old bloke told me learn by reading bike/car/sports magazines, as being interested in what I was learning will help. It helped big time. Self tort speller, still a lot to learn lol.
I love spell-checker
So being a labourer was the only way to go, I had a bit of work here and there (jobs like roustabout, Mulesing lambs, building, gardening, etc) and there was work for the dole I put my hand up to go and meet some of the laziest people I've ever meet.
21year old went carpet cleaning 3ish years. boring
23 worked in transport (in town) for 4 years loved the go go go hard fast working type of job. and going from don't touch, to, the go to man. they had to hire 2 blokes to replace me when I walked out. All ways make you feel good to hear that.
At a very very fit 27. worked for concreter/paver for 3months. He hired and sacked 5 blokes before he hired 2 at once to replace. I was good. lol
27 still started at the local council, can not be leave Im still there. I got labelled Lazy the day started, by lazy back stabbing arse licking cunts (sorry).
I still work hard (for a council worker lol) in Trees. Did my back in. lost all my fitness (5-10km run 3 times a week, Gym 3 times a week) Got treated like criminal by boss's and HR. I now have anxiety disorder. It makes thing hard sometimes, but getting good at dealing with it.
It's like this at the moment, I'm in a 2 man crew, Tree pruning & removal. I do 90% of the work and I'm the happiest I've been since I started There.
PS. 1 hour from start to finish for this post
