New Garage - may not look much yet but it's on the way!

After months of waiting, submission of plans etc to Council and finally getting approval, the new garage arrived yesterday (in kit form) and is now waiting to be assembled.
I had the slab put down a few weeks ago so now is cured well enough for holes to be drilled - Hopefully it will be up in just over a week, then I can bring my bike and all the other paraphernalia back. A good size so shouldn't fill it in a hurry: 7mts wide x 9mts long with a 4.2mt x 9 mt carport on the side..

Must be something in the air - I've just placed an order with Ranbuild for one (6m wide x 6m long plus 6m x 6m garaport infront under the gable).

Very nice... I have a 6m x 12m. Still can't get all my shit to fit neatly though

That's 5 square mts bigger than mine will be...! I look at the size of the slab and see about 4 mts left in front of the Commodore wagon plus the other side and think it will be big enough - but time will tell; I've got lots of crap to fill it with already.. (don't know how it all fitted in the Single shed?)

I miss my 20m x 10m shed I used to have. Plenty of room in that one!

I had a quote for contractors from the garage supply co. to put my shed up but I originally thought I'd give my daughters boyfriend (a young builder) a chance to make some quick cash.... regretted organising him as he really wasn't going to be much cheaper and as he had never done one before I thought he'd take longer and be prone to making errors...
Thought alot more about it all and decided to go back to the 'Contractor' - at least if something is 'wrong' when it's up I have some recourse without creating a family feud..so now I'm booked in for them to start building on the 12th Sept - a few days before some mates and I take off for a 6 day ride down to Lakes Entrance..& looking forward to that too!

Got no idea where we're going to stay - or even if we'll get there.... we've only got from the 17th Sept to do the trip and I have to be back home by midday on the 22nd; so all depends how many detours we take on the way down the coast!!

Bhoffo: My wife and I did all of our shed ourselves. Cost $5500 with cement about 9 years ago. Cost of steel has gone up, but putting a shed together isnlt rocket science either. I've since helped a mate erect a 20m x 10m as well as my brother who had one of similar size. A good cordless drill, a moveable scaffold and a decent socket set is all you need.

BTW the old school Rex looks ok. I drive a 2003 Forester XT for work. It's a fun little car. We have a 2010 Isuzu DMax for decent work. It carried over a tonne of wood no problem the other week, really happy with it since we brought it a year ago.

Thanks for the offer... we'll see what happens. We (the guys on the ride) discussed it a week or so ago and I think we thought the first night would be Batemans Bay and I don't remember after that but basically heading down along the coast.. I'll keep you in mind though..

It's all up and done - earlier than expected (wasn't meant to go up until the 12th Sept). Only took the builders a little over a day to fully erect it - now to paint the floor with paving paint, seal a few gaps and start to move all my extraneous bits and pieces in...+ all the electricals and connecting the drainage etc... maybe another month and it will be completely finished. But at least now I can bring my bike back and put my car inside... out of the weather for the first time in many a year..(the car not my bike!)

No permanent female living with me so I can 'cave' where ever I like at the moment!! First I need to fill the gaps inside the shed between the edges of the slab and the wall panel that extends just below the slab side.. don't know whether to get some Gal. plated 90 degree 50 x 50mm sheet lengths and anchor them into the inside corners on the slab and against the wall panel.. then fill the 'k' panel ridges with expanding foam or something similar. Someone else suggested mixing a slurry of quick set concrete and putting that into the gaps between the slab and wall panel, using a piece of long timber on the outside up under the wall panel as formwork - once set move along and do another section - but I also heard that the concrete could attack and corrode the wall panel.

Anyone have any experience here with doing this or any other suggestions?

Hi Reddog.. the little RX is the 1.8 1996 version - my son's first car.. Its a nice little vehicle but given him a fair bit of trouble; gearbox, oil usage, fuel consumption, ignition problems caused by water somehow invading one of the plug leads.. Tried to talk him out of getting it but he 'had' to have this car... so now he has to live with it's problems... (Oil and fuel usage could be reduced if he drove it at a lower RPM!!! - keep telling him but as with most teenagers he's deaf to advice!)

Yeah the Forester XT runs the first of the 2.5 turbo's. It does use a bit of oil every 5000 but nothing much to worry about. My previous turbo'd car (VL Turbo) was a much better engine, with so much torque down low and never used a drop of oil. Subaru build quality, stiff chassis and rust resistance is leagues above Aussie built vehicles though.

That old RB30ET Nissan motor was a pearler though

I'm hoping not too soon though.... will post a couple of pics when I've brought all my gear back.. will be a few weeks..

so pretty much scratch your nuts when ever & where ever you bloody well feel like free then

You used to be able to get a spray type foam in an squirty can that sets hard . You could use that instead of concrete . Not sure where you get it but you could try bunnings or maybe even a building supply co.

Expanda foam is what you are talking about. Use it sparingly as it foams up about 10 times the size of what you initially spray in.

@Dhula: We liked the RB30ET so much at one time both the wife and I had one. Hers was a BMW Blue VL Berlina with Calais interior and 5 speed manual. With a bit of extra boost that thing would just light up the rear in the first 3 gears no problem. Mine was an ex cop car with LSD rear, it was how can I say used when i brought it. I fixed it up a bit and then got rid of it. Way too much rust in the boot. Actually most of the boot sill was gone But the motor was still going hard.

I had the non-turbo 3L VL 5speed. it had some cam mods. One of the most fun cars I've had, a real sleeper.

What you heard is right. Any wet concrete poured against zincalume (colorbond is painted zincalume) will corrode. Gal should be ok.

How big are the gaps? can you just use a sealant?
