Southern Cross Poker Run 2011 Empty Southern Cross Poker Run 2011

Just back from the 2011 Southern Cross Poker Run (well about a week or so). Poker Run is first week of every September somewhere in Queensland.

This year's route Emerald, Ilfracombe, Cloncurry, Croydon, Ravenshoe, Palmer River (near Cooktown)

Around 350 bikes, only one Bandit (mine) - obviously so many people have got bad taste in motorcycles.

My route was a little different. Left home, Mackay on Sunday then to Emerald and Alpha (before Ilfracombe) and had to return to Mackay

Left Mackay again on Wednesday noon and stopped at Ingham overnight.
Thursday, North to Gordonvale then up the Gillies Highway to Atherton, Herberton and Ravenshoe to meet up with the Poker Run
Friday, Mareeba, Cooktown then back to Palmer River.
Saturday, Palmer River, Mareeba, Atherton, Mission Beach, Townsville to Ayr overnight.
Sunday, Ayr to Mackay

Around 3500Km with a fuel averageof 4.8l/100Km

Did I mention the Gillies Hwy, 18Km of quality road with twisties, a lot signposted at 30-40Km/h. This road has to be on the "ten things to do before you die" list

Southern Cross Poker Run 2011 Empty Rode Once, reported twice??

Post  BanditDave Sat 17 Sep 2011, 6:59 pm

Not sure how/why I finished up with two posts.

If I had the time I would have gone back to the beginning and rode it a second time. Fantastic in my opinion.
