Seat cowl....
Ive been looking for a cheap seat cowl .Plenty of cheap cowl on E-bay but of cause none for a 1250 .
To get a solo rego i guess the pillion seat has to be plastic or fibre -glass to pass .
Since the 1250 seat is in two parts ,what about removing the seat from the bike .
Remove the front rider seat from the base .
Cover the rear section with a thick plastic bag tightly.
Fibreglass over the top of plastic covered pillion seat .
Pull fibreglass when dry ,trim ,sand ect .
$10 seat cowl
Sounds easy ????

Re: Seat cowl....
I've wanted to do something like that since day 1 Gus but cant come at the powerbronze price for a cowl.
If you do 1 you might have to do 10
Makes no difference to Vic reg though.

Re: Seat cowl....
For solo reg upholstered seat no longer than 500mm I think from memory (it's been a while & I'm not getting any younger!) & pillion seat has to be removed/cut down/whatever, a seat cowl over the top won't pass. Why don't they just have a different colour plate or something so we don't have to cut things to bits to comply????

Re: Seat cowl....
I'm going to sell one of these things in carbon look soon. it could be modified to fit the rear fulltime.

Re: Seat cowl....
Stupid question time.....
If you get your bike rego'd as a solo, can you still take a pillion from time to time (obviously only if the fibreglass cover is removed to allow access to the seat underneath ), or is it deemed "illegal" to take a pillion?

Re: Seat cowl....
Illegal to take pillion .
In Qld a cowl over the seat wont pass ,the upolstered rear part has to be removed . Also thread in pillion attachment points has to be drilled out .
Not too much of a problem as you could use a nut and bolt to reverse , but the seat part is getting tricky .
Just rang bike shop that does solo rego ,Cowl will pass I guess its who you ask .Back to first idea , fibreglass over seat maybe .

Re: Seat cowl....
Wouldn't it be nice if you could have a rear cowl that was hinged so that it was an easy to access storage area. Hmmmmmm.

Re: Seat cowl....
Well the plastic bag over the seat wont work to many creases to bump up the glass .Why am a worried glass up and stuff up sound similar ?
Never mind , this might just work ,clear celo-tape over the seat .
It doesnt have to be strong as Ventura bag sits a bit high .Trip to Noosa Surf Works this arvo to see if they have missed me .
Apparently still in the good books " your right "
Pulled glass off seat ,released no problems at all .Seat perfect .
The glass mould curing in the sun .
Ist sand ,time to fill the "shinnies "

Re: Seat cowl....
If you have one of them vaccuum sealers you could possibly bag the seat and vaccuum it. Not sure if it'd work, but could be worth a go.

Re: Seat cowl....
I couldnt see how a cowl EXACTLY the same shape as the original seat was going to pass solo reg . so i added a "bump " to make it look less
inviting

Looks fantastic Gus.
How thick is the glass? (thinking camera mount)
How will it attach?

Re: Seat cowl....
Thats 3 layer of 6oz glass seems about right .Attachment i'm just thinking a couple of bits double sided tape .The front will be " squished '
between the two sections .Black wrinkle paint hides imperfections and a great seat colour ,texture match .Nearly finished

Lookin good Gus. I think you should call it the " Gus Pod ". Maybe some of that door trim you used on your tank will work nicely around the edge.

Re: Seat cowl....
