Oils is Oils?
Bandit's nearly due for an oil change. I put Shell Advance fully synthetic in it last time. Just wondering if there's anything better? Gearbox is a little too notchy with Advance in it.

I use either that or Motul (5100?) Full synth is probably overkill but what the heck!
Shell does seem to effect the gearbox towards the end if used in short runs. Properly heated its still fine.
I still wish I could get the Mobil I used to run in the RF900R.

I use Valvoline Durablend 10W40 in my bike or a deisel 15W40 not the castrol ones though as they use friction modifiers you'll save a heap of money, I've never had a problem and I've owned heaps of bikes.

You guys who use Full Syn. must be on a good wage . Someone who says you need Full Syn . probably says bikes are wornout at 25,000 kays .
Race bike maybe but an understressed Bandit ,i think not . If i can get 230,ooo kays on a GS1000 using mineral ??? Semi is way good enough for
me in fact i think what is the worst thing for a bike is not useing it ,motors like to run .
Save your money on "full " , take your wife (girfriend, boyfriend ) out for Tai , buy her a bunch of flowers and get "lucky " on the money you saved .
My opinion only ,so feel free to buy Full .

Oils Is Oils?
The local Suzuki dealer is say Castrol Active 4T. Which is a mineral based oil with synthetic additives. Suzuki manual says any oil must be jaso ma rated. Active 4T is rated jaso ma2. Has anyone ever used it?

Re: Oils is Oils?
I used to run active 4t in my DRZ
Im now running Fuck silkolene semi syn
The bike did run smooth but the oil was always looking used even after 500km (change every 500km when bush riding).
Now running silkolene and it looks like brand new when i drop it and even the bandit looks like new after 5000km
I dont think i would run run it in my Bandit but thats my 2c

I have got Castrol Activ 4T in mine and my last bike. Seems ok to me. I change my oil every 3000ks. Just looked at Castrol website, it says it exceeds JASO MA MA2 API SG specs.

Re: Oils is Oils?
I love an oil thread.
Everyone has an opinion
From it has a motorbike on the bottle so it must be good right? To long haul industrial grade diesel spec oil.
IMHO there are many correct theory’s so go with what feels right and if you don’t like what’s in it change it and start again.
