Michelin PR3 issues in US Empty Michelin PR3 issues in US

There's a thread on issues with a chap and his Michelin PR3s at: http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/fz6-general-discussion/35444-michelin-pilot-road-3-here-8.html

I have no issues with the front on mine, but it's hardly been warm here lately. Worth being aware of. So far there's no other chatter about the tyre other than how good they are.

What I find surprising is that the photo shown is evidently of a tyre that has done 9999 miles, or a fraction under 16,000 km. The tyre has an awful lot of tread for that sort of mileage. Call me suspicious.

I thought the tyre looked suspicious too; looked like it had got pretty hot, shiny and not scrubbed like I'd expect in hard riding. Something's not right...can this happen in prolonged dyno running?

Hmmm very interesting and a little dodgy

10000 miles? or 16000 kms i think not.... there is no where near enough tyre wear i know these new PR3's are meant to be good but that is just beyond belief. either that or this guy has been driving on the best prepared roads the entire time in the world.

Am I sounding sceptical enough yet????

It is however definatly a PR3 it just looks too new and has had some kind of manufacture error and de-laminated itself in the hot weather and high speed. (38 degrees and 140 kph) they could possibly be a factor with tyre error.

will have to keep my eye on this as it develops. Great find Kewwig cheers

It's all over quite a few forums. I have had various different brands andrun them in hot conditions and cold all at high speed. No failures yet touch wood. The Dunlops lasted the least, 3000k's and they were toast.

I still don't like Michelins. Wet weather and cold grip levels are terrible.

There is no way on gods green earth that tyre has 16,000km on it.

I just read the rest of that thread and the dumb fuck didn't think to replace the front tyre as well and had an off.

I scratched my head over this last night.
Obviously the PR3 has failed and I guess when they turn out as many as they do a dud could slip through. I hope its not on my bike.
I suspect for most of its like its been well over inflated going by what tread is left in the middle compared to the edge but I agree the tyre has done nothing like 16,000km even with the table smooth freeways of LA. I'd call it 5,000km.

I gave up on the tool when I read the line "should I contact Michelin"? They would be my first call if it was legit. I didnt see that he had an off though.
